Supported Living Specialist

Under the supervision of the Human Resource Department, the Supported Living Specialist is responsible for helping adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities connect with their community while also increasing independent living skills. The Supported Living Specialist will assist in the following areas:

Job coaching – identifying both job and career advancement opportunities for individuals based on their needs, objectives, and skill sets. Assisting to identify and enhance job skills, suggest improvements to resumes, and ensure that individuals are adequately prepared for job interviews.

Supported Community Connections (SCC) – supports the abilities and skills necessary to enable the individual to access typical activities and functions of community life such as those chosen by the general population, including community education or training, retirement, and volunteer activities. SCC provides a wide variety of opportunities to facilitate and build relationships and natural supports in the community, while utilizing the community as a learning environment to provide services and supports. SCC may be provided in a group setting or may be provided on a one-to-one basis.

Supported Living – assisting individuals in their home and community to learn and develop independent living skills (activities of daily living, medication management, money management, etc.) through reminders, prompts, encouragement, and modeling. The frequency and type of assistance will vary and be dependent on the individual’s needs.

Mentorship – promoting self-advocacy through instructing, providing experiences, modeling, and advising. Mentorship also includes assistance in interviewing potential providers and understanding complicated health and safety issues.

Location of Work: TCO Administrative Department, and the Community
