Facility and Transportation Specialist Needed

Summary: The Facility and Transportation Specialist is responsible for the scheduling, payment, documentation and maintenance of the ABLE facility and its vehicles used for service delivery. This position will ensure safe, legal, and efficient operations of the ABLE facilities and its vehicles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, and other duties may be assigned:

Reliable, regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position

Able to communicate effectively and professionally with diverse groups of people within the organization and outside of the organization, including co-workers, vendors, and contractors

Follow rules, regulations and program standards as determined by the state of Colorado’s Division of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities and Health Care Policy and Finance

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties

Responsible oversight and timely completion of facility and vehicle inspection reports

Initiate and maintain registration and insurance of all ABLE vehicles; including completion of title and transfer of title, DOT certificates and registrations

Monitor and document the use of vehicles including the service, trading, selling and purchasing of fleet vehicles

Assist DSPs with vehicle concerns ensuring safe transportation during day program services; i.e. flat tires

Perform light vehicle maintenance such as changing a tire or jumping a car

Communicate vehicular accidents to appropriate personnel including the documentation of such incidents etc

Provide transportation to/from client’s residence or to/from community-based activities as needed; communicate vehicle and transportation needs or concerns to appropriate staff

Assist in the training of DSPs including transportation routes, wheelchair lifts, tie-downs, vehicle handling as needed

Assist day program with client supervision, activities, and any other tasks as assigned

Perform a wide variety of general and semiskilled maintenance activities as needed

Schedule and oversee the maintenance activities of professional service persons i.e. plumbers, heating & cooling, vehicle detailing etc.

Responsible for securing coverage for immediate response to emergency maintenance needs or personal response to such needs

Facilitate moving of office furniture, appliances, and equipment

Organize and maintain storage facilities

Responsible for assuring compliance with fire, building, and health department as it relates to agency facilities

Assure that maintenance and upkeep requests are handled in timely manner and progress communicated to requesting parties as necessary

Assure snow and ice removal of vehicles, walkways with application of ice melt compounds to keep walkways safe

Ensure a safe, respectful and sanitary environment for persons in services, and fellow staff members, for example, cleaning spills at the base-site facility/community/vehicles, as needed

Ensure needed supplies are secured for day to day operations including restroom and cleaning items; maintain an inventory to prevent the mishandling or misappropriation of said supplies

Complete and submit accurate paperwork meeting deadlines

Responsibly administer and document any funds used to provide service

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience with facility maintenance is desired. Experience in transportation services is desired. Experience in I/DD services is desired.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and write English. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization. Interpret and complete documents, such as: vehicle maintenance reports, mechanic and repair notes and descriptions, read and follow the daily schedule, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and alphabetical filing. Ability to write shift notes, and complete incident reports correctly. Communicate daily information in a professional manner with clients, fellow staff, ABLE administration, other service providers, and community members in verbal and written form. Follow and implement directives given by lead staff, managers or directors.

Math Ability:

Ability to accurately calculate figures and amounts such as daily data documentation, financial purchases, receipt amounts, and vocational documentation.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Respect and implement ABLE philosophies and professional business interactions. Know and follow ABLE policies, procedures, and operation systems.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and be able to complete typed reports as needed.

Certificates and Licenses:

Documentation of right to work in the United States of America.

Employee will earn passing scores and testing in the following, but not limited to: Colorado QMAP, CPR/First Aid, and CPI. Must be able to attend and show proficiency in scheduled and required trainings.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the insurance requirements to drive ABLE vehicles, including: Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license and five years of continuous driving experience with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three years; no more than one at fault accident in the last three years; no serious violation in the last three (3) years including: using false of fictitious registration, plates of driver’s license; leaving the scene of an accident; driving on a suspended driver’s license; murder or assault with a motor vehicle; theft of a motor vehicle or related incidents; driving under the influence (none in the past five years); reckless driving resulting in bodily injury or death (none in the past five years); negligent homicide.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Said employee is frequently exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions: wet or humid outdoor conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. There is travel from site to site. There may be exposure to dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards. Work is performed in outdoor and indoor environments and may involve limited movement and inadequate lighting.

Hand tools associated with painting, drywall, light maintenance and minor repairs, snow shovels, ice melt spreader, carpet cleaner, wheel barrow, shovel, two wheel lifts, furniture dollies, carts, telephone, time clock, passenger vans, other vehicles, pens, pencils, computer, cell phone, fax machine, copier.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee must be able to lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds.

Must be able to push/pull up to 200 pounds using carts, dollies and lifts.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: depth perception, and maintaining visual awareness of safety situations in the community and at base-site.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to: Stand; walk; run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk, hear, write, and physically gesture; sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, bend, squat, climb, twist, turn, reach above, and reach away, across and to shoulder level and above, to and from the body.

Ability to stand and walk on hard surfaces for periods of time up to five hours thought an eight to ten hour day.

Must be able to physically assist people with transfers from a wheelchair to a changing bed, toilet, or vehicle. Must be able to push or pull a person in a wheelchair of moderate weight and safely manipulate wheelchair equipment, such as tie-downs and electric or manual lifts. Must be able to assist individuals with other medical equipment, such as

Hoyer lifts, or anything deemed essential to the person’s medical care.
