Shift Supervisor

The Security Supervisor position is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for guests, team members, volunteers, Museum property and assets, including our 4.3 million scientific artifacts, while still providing exceptional customer service. The Shift Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision, including motivation, coaching and training, and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the security team. We are a 24/7 and 365 day per week operation.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science's Security Department has one Security Supervisor position available:

Job Class: Full-Time

Hiring Range: $26.00/hour (additional pay when working a swing shift of $.75/hour)

Work Schedule: Relief Shift Supervisor: Schedule is both Day Shifts 7:30am - 4:00pm & Swing shifts 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM.

Essential Duties

- Provides day-to-day supervision to the Security Officers and contract employees.

- Coordinate Emergency Response and related evacuation planning and drills. Provide directions and assistance to employees, guests and community members. Develop strong liaison and coordinate with emergency first responders (police/fire) as needed.

- Acts as liaison between security staff and other Museum departments in coordination of security operations and resolves issues.

- Provides excellent customer service to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for customers.

- Explains and enforces Museum policies to guests, uses de-escalation techniques to address issues and resolve conflicts.

- Conduct incident response and investigations. Maintains accurate security records within legal compliance, ensures incident reports meet security standards.

- Demonstrates excellent decision making skills generally and while under stressful conditions.

- May require working overtime, weekends, and rotating shifts on short notice.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

- 3 years’ experience in security, military, or equivalent related service required.

- 1 years’ supervisory experience or functioning as a lead required.

- Security certification or related training approved by management, within one year of hire required.

- Current driver’s license with clean driving record, or ability to obtain license within 30 days of hire.

- Ability to comply with requirements for Denver Security License within 30 days of hire.

Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have

- Excellent interpersonal, administrative, and communication skills, as well as strong leadership traits in order to deal effectively with colleagues, visitors, and customers.

- Ability to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience, and professionalism during stressful situations

- Experience using de-escalation techniques to address issues and resolve conflicts

- Ability to maintain guest, employee, and organization confidentiality

- Ability to work under pressure or stressful situations

- Ability to obtain First Aid & CPR certification

Working Conditions

- Office: Moderate noise (business office with computers and printers, light traffic)

- Lifting requirements: Medium physical effort required by handling up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

- Stand or sit: must be able to remain in a stationary position (80% of time)

- Ability to walk 6-8 miles/day to patrol the Museum and property.

- Ability to work outside as needed in all types of weather.

- Ability to move someone in a wheel chair, or relocate an injured party to a safer area.

- Ability to climb ladders and investigate issues in an emergency.

- May need to detain suspects for police apprehension.
