A plumbing superintendent oversees plumbing system installation on construction projects. In this role, you review the project blueprints with your subordinates so that you understand the scope and specifications of the project. Training and mentoring subordinates is a primary responsibility for this position. As a plumbing superintendent you’ll supervise multiple field teams to ensure projects are completed safely and per all applicable project documentation. You must monitor their work closely, troubleshoot problems when necessary, and push them to complete the project on time and within budget.
Job Responsibilities
The plumbing superintendent shall be involved in all stages of project planning. They will coordinate with the plumbing division manager to understand the scope of work and ensure that all plumbing installations are feasible and efficient.
Supervise and manage plumbing crews. This entails assigning tasks, setting schedules, monitoring progress, and ensuring the teams follows safety protocols. The superintendent must also ensure that crew members have the necessary training and certifications for their tasks.
It is the superintendent's responsibility to ensure that all plumbing work is of top-notch quality. They must inspect installations regularly, ensuring they align with the project's specifications, blueprints, and local plumbing codes. Any deviations must be rectified promptly.
The plumbing superintendent must ensure that all workers adhere to safety protocols. This includes providing appropriate personal protective equipment, overseeing the safe use of tools and machinery, and conducting regular safety training sessions.
The plumbing superintendent must manage the costs associated with plumbing work in the field. This involves monitoring labor hours, ensuring efficient use of materials, and identifying areas where costs can be reduced without compromising quality.
The plumbing superintendent must possess problem-solving skills to address issues that arise on the spot. This could range from technical challenges with installations to conflicts between crew members.
The superintendent is responsible for regularly reporting to higher management about project progress, challenges faced, costs incurred, and any other vital information. Proper documentation ensures transparency and can be helpful for future reference.

Qualifications
Journeyman or Master Plumber License.
Minimum 20 years of commercial plumbing field experience.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interpret complex plan sets and identify discrepancies before installations occur.
Capability to work independently, following instructions and establishing practices to complete assignments on time.
Proven leadership and supervisory skills.
Certification in safety training.
Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
Capacity to perform essential job functions safely and efficiently, meeting set productivity standards.
Punctual and regular attendance is mandatory.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, lift/carry up to 50lbs and climb ladders.
Must possess knowledge to operate PCs and handheld/mobile devices. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally via email.
