Apex Transportation is hiring Trailer Techs and Diesel Techs inHenderson,COto perform servicing and repairs, both scheduled and unscheduled, on our company owned tractors, trailers, and other power driven equipment.

Fleet Mechanic Openings

Starting Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 based on experience

Schedule: 2nd, 3rd and weekend day shifts available

Our fleet size is 54 power units with Peterbilts, Kenworths and Freightliners and over 250 trailers with most being Flatbeds. Yet what makes us stand out from the transport “crowd” is our staff of approximately 56 employees.

The Job

Fleet Mechanic I:This is the entry level class in the Fleet Mechanic series. This class is distinguished from the Fleet Mechanic II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to workers in this series.

Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level.

Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or non directly related work experience. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks including:

Methods, materials, equipment, and tools used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair. Various mechanical systems of gasoline and diesel engines.

Various electrical systems of gasoline and diesel engines.

Standard practices, equipment, and tools of the Class 8 and equipment mechanical trade. Principles and practices of gasoline and diesel engine repair and maintenance.

Methods and techniques of welding and fabrication. Operating and repair characteristics of hydraulic systems.

Basic principles of record keeping.

Shop mathematics.

Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Qualifications

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Two years of responsible vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair experience in a Class 8 Semi Truck and Trailers shop.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Ability to:

Perform a variety of duties in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing vehicles, equipment and components.

Inspect automotive, class 8 equipment to locate mechanical defects, to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems and to determine corrective procedures.

Perform a variety of welding work.

Estimate time and materials needed for work.

Maintain a variety of shop and repair records and logs. Use various hand and power-driven shop tools.

Prepare and maintain clear and accurate reports. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
