Overview: A Landscape Irrigation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems in various outdoor landscapes such as residential gardens, commercial properties, parks, and golf courses. This role requires a combination of technical skills, knowledge of irrigation systems, and an understanding of landscaping principles.

Responsibilities:

1. Installation:

Install irrigation systems according to landscape designs and specifications.

Lay out and assemble irrigation pipes, fittings, valves, and other components.

Program and set irrigation controllers to ensure optimal water distribution.

Install drip irrigation systems for efficient water usage.

2. Maintenance:

Conduct routine inspections of irrigation systems to identify leaks, broken components, or other issues.

Perform system adjustments to optimize water distribution and ensure proper coverage.

Replace or repair damaged pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, and other irrigation components.

Clean filters and flush irrigation lines to prevent clogging and maintain system efficiency.

Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to irrigation systems.

3. Water Management:

Monitor weather conditions and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly to conserve water.

Recommend water-saving strategies such as using drought-resistant plants or installing rain sensors.

Conduct water audits to assess irrigation system efficiency and identify areas for improvement.

Educate clients or property owners on water conservation practices and irrigation best practices.

4. Documentation:

Maintain detailed records of irrigation system installations, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Document water usage and irrigation schedules for reporting and compliance purposes.

Keep inventory of irrigation parts and supplies, and reorder as necessary.

5. Safety:

Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working with irrigation equipment and tools.

Ensure proper use and storage of chemicals and fertilizers used in irrigation systems.

Identify and mitigate potential hazards related to irrigation system installations and repairs.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in irrigation systems preferred.

Proven experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing irrigation systems.

Strong knowledge of irrigation principles, techniques, and equipment.

Ability to read landscape plans and irrigation designs.

Proficiency in using irrigation tools and equipment such as trenchers, pipe cutters, and pressure gauges.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Good communication skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and suppliers.

Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record may be required.
