Summary About the Position: This position is located with MEDDAC Troop Command, Office of the Troop Command at Fort Carson, CO. Responsibilities Provides expert advice to office staff regarding the preparation and publication of various documents with complex formats, such as newsletters, brochures, flyers, special reports, briefings, and manuals. Incorporates data from diverse sources and convert the information into a format compatible with the software being used for the end product. Maintains documents in electronic files for easy retrieval. Makes backup copies of stored data as appropriate. Edits material and makes necessary corrections in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and format. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. There is no position in the normal line of progression in the organization that is one grade lower than the position being filled. For outside applicants (i.e., those without current or prior Federal competitive or excepted service), 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-06) is required. Specialized Experience (External Candidates): One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes demonstrated experience performing a wide variety of office administration support functions; selecting the most appropriate office automation to prepare reports, correspondence and spreadsheets; retrieving, manipulating and sorting electronic data; informing and instructing office personnel on proper procedures; and providing support functions such as reviewing timekeeping and payroll for accuracy and to resolve discrepancies. Specialized Experience (Internal Candidates): One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes demonstrated experience preparing correspondence and reports; maintaining office files/records; using office automation software and/or systems. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Clerical Computer Literacy Customer Service Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). Time in Grade Requirement GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
