This position oversees the accounting and Costing functions for the Self-Funded operations. This position must be familiar with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and other fiscal processes.This position works closely with Pre-post award proposal specialists in the VDL and follow OMB Uniform Guidance and sponsor requirements. This position provides backup support for the Pre-Post awards grant proposal preparation and submission. This position oversees a wide variety of accounts across multiple fund groups, and is expected to enact and ensure fiscal management intentions for gift funds. The position generates fiscal management reports for multiple stakeholders as required and work closely with the VDL Business Office, The VDL Director, and CVMBS .Due to the nature of the department’s work, this is a fully in-person position located at the Diagnostic Medical Center, Fort Collins, CO.The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; Colorado State University Diagnostic Laboratories will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.Required Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or business-related field

5 years experience in an accounting role with a High School Diploma (or GED ) can substitute for Bachelor’s degree requirement

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Advanced experience with Microsoft excel including calculations, formulas and formatting

Experience working in a team environment

Demonstrated written communication skills and strong attention to details confirmed by review of application materials.

Familiar with GAAP and fiscal policies and accounting principles

Preferred Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a business field

1 or more years of professional work experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, and/or grant management

Experience working in a higher education environment or research institution

Experience using financial software systems

Experience managing multiple, complex, changing projects and deadlines; identifying applicable action points and affected parties; and initiating subsequent, relevant response

Experience interpreting and ensuring compliance with regulatory policy, including Federal Uniform Guidance, and state, university and institutional fiscal rules

Experience applying Federal Cost Accounting Standards for calculating billing rates.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, managing and prioritizing multiple projects.

Experience in fostering collaboration across multiple stakeholders at various levels.

Oversees the accounting for the VDL funds which includes appropriated funds, research grants, service centers and other fund sources.

Forecast future commitments and spend rates to minimize over expenditures

Review and approve financial transactions for authenticity, allowability, monitor balances; assure accurate time and effort allocations; complete account reconciliations to the financial system of record; and identify/correct errors and justify expense redistributions

Provide comprehensive financial overviews to the VDL Business Officer, the VDL Director/Department Head, and others upon request

Duties to include, Procurement, Accounts Receivable, Various Distributions to accounts, and various types of reconciliations.

Identify when current, proposed or potential activities may trigger real or perceived fiscal inappropriate behaviors/actions or misconduct. This requires development and implementation of plans for appropriate response to avoid or cease such activities, including assessment of risk for various options, and specific actions to ensure proper personnel are informed and react accordingly.

Identify appropriate fund types for new activities. Create new accounts and /or update account information as needed or requested, including initial budgets and updating annual budgets.

Assist with cost analysis and billing rates for internal and external service centers

Act as liaison between departmental personnel, Sponsored Programs, Business and Financial Services and/or the CVMBS College Office regarding accounting and finance, budgets, staffing, sponsored projects, purchasing contracting, and other issues as identified.

Monitor all sub systems to maintain integrity of the system of record
