Town of Berthoud (Town) is recruiting an enthusiastic Project Engineer-Water/Wastewater to join our team in this critical role with the Water Utilities Department. Highlights of your role:

Leads and or provides the analysis, design, interpretation, application, construction administration, and preparation of technical efforts, reports, plans, permit submittals, and specifications in support of water and wastewater treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection/pumping, reuse, and resource recovery facility, conveyance, utility, pump station, and/or master planning infrastructure projects, and the resolution and documentation of design conflicts, constructability reviews, preliminary and final engineering evaluations, etc.

Serves as technical specialist, staff advisor and consultant in area of specialization.

Possesses excellent organizational, communication, computer and technical writing skills

Balances multiple work assignments on various projects

Ability to lead, motivate, and manage project teams and oversee quality of work.

What you Bring:

Bachelor of Science degree in appropriate engineering discipline (Civil, Environmental Engineering or related field) required from a university with an engineering program accredited by the Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology.

Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license, or capable of acquiring within 6-months after hire.

6 + years’ experience in engineering practice, design and project management with municipal engineering and or water/wastewater fields (ex. pipeline, treatment facility, pump, lift stations).

Valid, Full Colorado Driving license.

Salary Range: $48.35 - $53.40 hourly, $100,568 - $111,078 annual

Essential Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day engineering activities specializing in water and wastewater treatment, and collection/distribution system projects. Includes but not limited to; new sanitary sewer interceptor or potable water transmission lines, condition assessment and system rehabilitation, WWTP and WTP expansion and process improvement, pump/lift stations, reservoirs, storm water and flood control facilities, and non-potable irrigation facilities.

Manage capital improvement plans and infrastructure projects in accordance with the Towns masterplans and standards.

Perform, oversee preparation, review and/or revise engineering documents to include submittals, technical studies, capacity studies, reports, conditional assessments and rehab recommendations, general design plans and specifications, improvement plans, calculations, analysis, and cost estimates pertaining to respective Town projects.

Write and review scope and schedule of professional design service contracts.

Manage the procurement, budget, and schedule of contracts for engineering, design, construction, and maintenance services.

Coordinate with permitting agencies from utility compliance to individual project approvals.

Coordinate services during construction including attending progress meetings, supervising review of shop drawings, issuing RFI responses and investigating field changes.

Keep Utilities Director aware of all project activities, responding promptly to needs, problems, or requests associated with project design.

Ensure engineering activities comply with Town and contract requirements and oversee project schedule.

Prepare and present reports, estimates, and schedules to the Planning Commission, Town of Board Trustees, or other groups as directed.

Liaison and work effectively with Town departments, other government agencies and groups/ companies to implement programs and projects.

Develop, implement, administer project engineering procedures and work controlling documents.

Assist in the proposal process for new contracts, including estimates and project scope.

Oversee work of engineering and/or technical staff on project-specific tasks.

Provide other support and development efforts as needed.

Serve as Project Manager and sealing Professional Engineer for projects requiring intergroup skills and consultants.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the critical nature of water and wastewater service to public health and conservation and an understanding of development and public service.

Knowledge of alternative project delivery methods

Knowledge of the administration, design and construction of public water and wastewater systems including pressurized potable water distribution, storage tanks, pump stations, gravity sewer, and lift stations.

Knowledge of pipe material, assessment techniques, rehabilitation, and constructability.

Skills and experience in ARC GIS, CAD, asset management programs and modeling software, and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint).

Ability to communicate courteously, clearly, and concisely in written and oral communications with officials, contractors, engineers and developers, the public, and other city employees.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to maintain mental focus, problem-solving activities and display sound decision-making capabilities through all assigned work activities and work efficiently within a team environment.

Work Environment:

Lift, carry and/or hold up to 50 pounds of survey and office equipment.

Walk, climb, and/or crawl while reviewing projects and citizen inquires in the field.

Sit and stand for extended periods of time while performing routine tasks for this position.

Work indoors and outdoors, including in adverse weather conditions.

Work at various heights as required. Some exposure to hazards (insects, poisonous plants, snakes, animals, noise, mechanical hazards, radiation, fumes/odors, dust/mites) using appropriate safety precautions/equipment.

Some extended hours are occasionally required.
