Job Description: Seasonal On-Call Massage Therapist
The role of the on-call massage therapist is to provide massage therapy services to clients in support of the total integrative experience as indicated by the Amara mission and to maintain detailed progress notes for each session. Additionally, on call therapists also provide support to our tenured team members to cover last minute and vacation pick ups. Therapists are expected to develop center retention and satisfied clientele within the business by providing excellent customer service and superior massage and body treatment services. On-call therapists are given priority hiring opportunities when full time hours become available. Employees will receive compensation at a rate agreed upon when hired. Other duties may be required as assigned by management.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Provide outstanding massage therapy services to Amara’s clientele under the guidance of the owner/general manager and lead massage therapist.
-Maintain detailed progress notes on every client following each session.
-Complete all agreed upon scheduled shifts.
-Arrive 30 min before the start of each shift. Complete a full 30,60,90 or 120 minutes of hands on treatment for each appointment booked.
-Represent Amara by exceeding industry expectations for an experience that the client will continue to return for and feel comfortable referring friends/family.
-Always acting professionally and going above and beyond industry standard ethical guidelines. This means following ALL AMTW policy/procedures, starting and ending sessions on time, supporting co-workers, maintaining a highly positive environment and seeking support from lead therapist and ownership when needed.
-Develop a steady, returning clientele and referral business.
-Maintaining integrity of the workspace and being mindful that our break room is a community setting.
-Checking your schedule to clarify client wants/needs, body treatment add-ons, etc.
-Following all protocols and objectives in the AMT&W training binder in each treatment room
-Retrieving clients 1-5 min before their appointment time so that you can do intake/discussion and then start the hands on portion of the session ON TIME. Finishing sessions exactly when the appointment ends so that all clients are receiving a full 30, 60 or 90 minute massage (not 1-10 minutes more or less).
-Attending staff meetings and continuing education as requested.
-Clearly communicate vacation or other time off requests directly to management at least 2 weeks before the requested dates.
-Clearly communicate personal requests and feedback to general manager and lead therapist. Communicating directly with co-workers to encourage a team atmosphere where requests and feedback are welcome and supported by one another.
Supporting the general operation of AMT&W with other duties as needed. This might mean helping out with laundry when we are busy, etc.
ON CALL SPECIFIC, please read carefully:
-On-call therapist hours vary greatly as you do not have a regular place on the schedule. On-call therapists are required to work a minimum of 5 massages per week or 1.5 shifts per week, equating to at least 5 shifts per month/20 massages a month, but ideally you can pick up more than that. If pick up or last minute shifts are not available on a given week we will add you to the schedule based solely on need for additional coverage day to day, meaning if all other therapists are at least 90% booked going into a certain day and we have a need for extra coverage we will add you to the schedule based on your availability/preferences and center need.
-There is no mandate that you work specific shifts, only that you pick up at least 1-1.5 shifts a week or 5 massages. In addition to the employee checking Discord (communication platform) - the Front Desk will be messaging you directly to request coverage. You are not mandated to cover any given request, but please keep in mind that if you don’t meet the minimum number of coverage requests/requirements we will terminate your employment.
On call/seasonal therapists may pick up part time or full time hours from week to week based on their availability.
-Follows all NEW/UPDATED COVID ERA guidelines in and out of the treatment, this includes; personal pre screening (disclose all risk and call out if needed to self quarantine), client pre screening, cleaning, prep, turnover time, note taking, intakes, etc.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
-Amara Massage staff must meet all of the following requirements to maintain employment
-Licensed to practice Massage in the State of Colorado, registered with DORA, HPPP
-Be a member in good standing with AMTA, ABMP, etc and have active liability/aggregate insurance coverage of $1,000,000 minimum.
-Listing Amara Massage Therapy & Wellness as “Additional Insured”
-Must pursue continuing education, with at least 12 contact hours attained each year. (Not all hours need to be accredited)
-Must adhere to all Policy & Procedures of AMT&W
RELATIONSHIPS:
-Amara Massage Staff communicates directly with the Massage Team Manager, Lead therapists, General Manager, Front Desk Lead, and Front Desk Associates.
-All time off requests should be given directly to the General Manager via the file box.
-Massage Staff should work cohesively to bring all clients an excellent massage experience and be prepared to refer clients to other staff members if you feel they would be best suited with an alternate therapist.
COMPENSATION DETAILS:
-We pay therapists competitive commission wages, starting at $38+ base commission per one hour massage + TIPS (average is $15-25), bringing total commission income to $45-70 per session, with opportunities to grow income based on retention bonuses. When clocking in for meetings, CE, or online trainings, hourly pay is $17 per hour. As a W-2 employee all taxes are deducted/paid on your behalf. Anthem health insurance and Guardian vision + dental + accident + short term disability coverage are available for full time employees.
-Anyone who is on site 24+ hours per week is considered Full Time. For massage therapists, this means being available for 20 massages per week. SCHEDULE:
-We are open 7 days a week. Evenings and weekends will be required for this position. If you are not prepared to work evenings and weekends please do not accept this position, as the need for this will be indefinite.
-We will work with you to create a schedule that is ideal for you and also beneficial for center utilization. A schedule agreement will be signed to clarify expectations and shifts.
