CDHSCareers Description of JobThe purpose of this position is to maintain facilities and support systems, according to all applicable regulatory standards, providing a safe, secure and sanitary environment for clients, patients, inmates and staff. Meet the facilities needs of the Department of Human Services Southern Region customers. Manage available resources to provide a physical environment at the highest quality possible. This position is to maintain all electrical branch-circuit, feeder, service equipment, bonding systems, devices, equipment and facility systems in a complete and thorough journeyman-like manner, using proper procedures, tools and equipment and maintain all systems in accordance with applicable code and regulatory standards. This includes maintenance of all commercial/residential steam, electric and gas kitchen equipment and appliances in accordance with applicable code and regulatory standards. This position is required to drive a State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment to carry out Work orders. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Troubleshoot, evaluate, modify, maintain, test, adjust, expand and repair all electrical equipment, systems, and appliances. Coordinate work with associated trades and department staff to accomplish the same. Work is to comply with N.E.C. requirements and all applicable code and regulatory standards.

For new construction, additions, and remodels, design, layout, and determine materials required to install new and adapt existing electrical branch distribution systems, devices, raceways, wiring, appliances and equipment per N.E.C requirements. Coordinate and work with associated trades and contractors to accomplish the same.

Read, interpret, design, draw and modify blueprints, wiring schematics and wiring diagrams to service and maintain new and existing electrical branch distribution systems, devices, appliances and equipment per N.E.C requirements.

Perform required and trade related preventative and predictive maintenance on existing stationary and mobile electrical branch distribution systems, devices, appliances and equipment per N.E.C. requirements.

Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on all commercial and residential kitchen equipment including but not limited to:

Power slicers, can openers, bread slicers and other electrically operated kitchen equipment to include sharpening and installing new cutting knives.

Steam operated kitchen equipment including hot water boosters, coffee urns and hot water dispensers, cook/steam combination ovens, and kettles.

Electrically operated kitchen equipment including ovens, toasters, dish machines, hot water boosters mixers, choppers and blenders.

Gas operated kitchen equipment including combination steam/cook ovens, large rotating bake oven, and large commercial ranges.

Specialty equipment in the commercial bake shop including dough mixers, rounders, dividers, cookie machine, pie machine and proofers.

Electronic controls including microprocessors, circuit boards, relays and PLCs for any of the above listed equipment.

Order parts and supplies, and provide specifications and guidance to nutritional services staff with ordering new equipment. Keep inventory of needed replacement parts for kitchen equipment. Assist in the installation and set-up of new kitchen equipment.

Additional duties other than those normally required by this position. These might include snow removal, assisting other departments with general labor requirements, etc.

Employees must at all times observe safe work practices and be aware of and avoid any possible hazards to themselves, other coworkers, staff and patients, and the facility infrastructure. Examples include lifting heavy items in a safe manner, deciding what tools or equipment are best suited for the job, using appropriate personal protective equipment, etc.

Other duties as assigned

This is a full-time, in-person, essential position. Shift work may be required. Must be available for and respond to call backs after hours to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency in a timely manner.

Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non exempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption.

Call Back applies when an eligible employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.

Preferred Qualifications The following additional experience, competencies and abilities are highly desirable for this position and may be considered in selecting the successful candidate:

Possession of a Master Electrician license issued by the State of Colorado.

Demonstrated experience in repairing, maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems, including electrical distribution and security systems and electrical preventative maintenance; fire alarms and other automation controls and systems.

Demonstrated experience in reviewing and documenting audits and inspections of electrical projects.

Demonstrated knowledge of proper procedures in the handling, care and response to exposure to hazardous materials.

Demonstrated knowledge of NEC - National Electrical Code

Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA - National Fire Protection Association 110- Emergency Power.

Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA - National Fire Protection Association – 101.

Demonstrated ability to read and understand sketches, shop drawings and complex blueprints.

Excellent skills and abilities in oral and written communication; the ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand, and ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Strong ability to prioritize work assignments appropriately and accomplish tasks within established timeframes.

Excellent customer service skills; anticipates and understands customer needs and expectations; takes action appropriately; understands the impact of decisions on customers.

Conditions of Employment

A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Must possess and maintain current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board throughout employment in this position

Travel – This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools and equipment to perform daily duties. May be required to travel to training and meetings.

Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption.

Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.

Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or without interruption

Must be available for shift work. May be required to work various hours for coverage outside of normal business hours.

Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials – Explain: Proximity to moving, mechanical parts, Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. Exposure to electrical shock, and or working in highly exposed places. Use of cleaners, detergents and other chemicals.

Post Offer screening to include dynamic strength testing, eye exam and physical. All job offers are contingent on a successful physical exam which also includes a lift and range of motion test provided by a designated health care professional, certifying the candidate's ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
