CDHSCareers Description of JobRN Residency Program Objective:This position will provide novice RN’s the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high quality mental health care within a safe and secure environment. The RN Residency Program is a one-year program that encompasses training to improve discretionary judgment, organizational and time management skills, through an explicit curriculum inclusive of orientation, mentorship supported by current seasoned RN staff, reflection, theory, practical hands-on experiences and an evidence-based project to aid learning and build confidence.Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of treatment. This could include family involvement, case management, formulation of individualized nursing care plans, implementing infection control measures, delivering crisis intervention, providing direct patient contact in individual and group therapy sessions, teaching patients and co-workers, and providing direct care in emergency situations.
Assess, evaluate, and communicate changes in mental status related to medication effectiveness and adverse reactions.
Documents and updates patient records per nursing department standards
Evaluate patient care on an ongoing basis to ensure continuity of care
Monitors infection control including equipment sterility
Employs de-escalation techniques, counseling, and intervenes with Therapeutic Interventions for Physical Safety to control assaultive or self-destructive behavior.
May be responsible to explain work processes, train, and assign task to Psychiatric Care Technician, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Clinician and/or Client Care Aide.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Graduate from a Nursing Program within the last 12 months.
No current RN work experience.
No previous work experience at CMHHIP.

Ability to maintain required licensure/credentials.

Successfully pass all modules of the CMHHIP New Employee Orientation core curriculum including English reading comprehension, relevant competency assessments, and written/practical exams in Defensive Tactics
May be required to work evening or weekend shifts, holidays, voluntary or mandatory overtime both in the clinic, or on patient units throughout CMHHIP
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete hospital approved physical interventions and CPR
Lift arms above the head and kick as high as your own waist
Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled takedown
Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield
Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic
Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety
Seize, hold, control, or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
Demonstrate body agility, the strength of all four limbs, and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently
Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person, and/or restraint situations
Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English, both verbally and in writing
Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings
Willing and able to travel
