Specializes in investigating and assessing allegations of sexual abuse. Provides intensive crisis intervention and assessment of families' needs, including domestic caretakers' capacity to parent. Determines need for out of home placement for children. Identifies and utilizes the strengths of the family; determines risk and/or safety issues for children; makes plans that best meet the safety, well being, and permanency needs of children; provides services to families in crisis; and works in partnership with community and collateral agencies.Hiring Range: $60,593.52-$69,682.55/ Full Range: $60,593.52-$87,860.60 Examples of Duties for Success

Investigates and assesses reports of abuse and neglect of children. Interviews and observes victims, offenders, witnesses, caregivers, and collaterals to ensure the safety of the child and to determine the validity of the allegations. Recognizes and identifies risk factors and dynamics of child abuse, child neglect, and family functioning.

Provides intensive crisis intervention with families in order to address family problems; assesses need for on-going services; and prevents out of home placement when possible.

Maintains accurate case records of assessments, activities, and plans; writes summaries, reports, letters, and memos.

Works diligently to meet federal and state mandates and timeframes.

Evaluates need for placement, determines appropriate level of care, and facilitates placement. Ensures ongoing safety through frequent, meaningful contact with children and their caregivers.

Prepares court reports, attends court hearings, testifies in court hearings and proceedings, consults with attorneys, judges, and guardians-ad-litem.

Provides positive role modeling in work environment, ensuring productivity.

Nurtures community partnerships to enhance service delivery and program development.

Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications for Success

Knowledge and ability to integrate into practice Volume 7 guidelines, the Children's Code, SOMB standards, and other State and Department policies.

Knowledge of human behavior principles, child development, family dynamics, and neglect and abuse dynamics. Ability to understand dynamics, causes, and reasons related to neglect and abuse in families.

Knowledge of resources and alternatives to placement of children.

Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of the state automated child welfare information system and the department's electronic systems.

Knowledge of casework principles, assessments, and intake investigation.

Knowledge of Juvenile Court system and how to effectively utilize it to implement treatment plans for families and ensure the safety of children.

Ability to practice professional and ethical conduct while performing job duties.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, collaborate, and elicit accurate information; ability to deescalate others.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Demonstrate competency in working with adult and juvenile sexual offenders, recantation, sibling sexual abuse, cycle of abuse aligned with domestic violent offenders, and understanding how trauma impacts non-offending parent’s protective abilities.

Education and Training:

A bachelor’s degree from a higher education institution with course work related to the job responsibilities of child welfare social caseworker. Course work examples can include and are not limited to, the development of human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques.

An educational waiver is available for those individuals who do not meet the education requirements to be a social caseworker and are currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program from a higher education institute. A bachelor’s degree must be obtained within one (1) year from hire date with related coursework to job duties as outlined in 7.603.1 (click here for more info (https://www.sos.state.co.us/CCR/GenerateRulePdf.do?ruleVersionId=7351&fileName=12%20CCR%202509-7) ). If a degree is not obtained within one (1) year from hire date, employment with the agency may be impacted including, and up to termination. Employee will be responsible for updating the hiring manager every six (6) months of their education progress.

Proof of education, (degree or transcripts), and license (if candidate has received one) are required.

License or Certificate:

Colorado Child Welfare Caseworker certification required and must be completed within three (3) months of employment, through the Colorado Child Welfare Training System (CWTS).”
