Transit/Trails Maintenance Technician

Hiring Range: $23.39-$27.48. The maximum pay for this position is $31.57.

Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of ECO Transit and Trails facilities including bus shelters, bus pullouts, park and ride lots, other operations facilities, and the Eagle Valley Trails. Assists with bus cleaning and fueling operations and special transit or trail projects.

Schedule: Flexible work schedule, 4 - 10 hour days (Mon - Thurs) OR, 5 - 8 hour days (Mon - Fri). Weekend rotation for snow plowing will be required.

Essential Functions

For the Transit Program:

General maintenance and cleaning of existing transit shelters, bus pullouts, and bus park and ride lots including, but not limited to:

-Clean and remove trash around shelters;

-Weekly emptying and refilling of trash and recycling receptacles, dog waste receptacles, and ground trash;

-Monthly monitoring and emptying of cigarette receptacles;

-Repair and replacement of polycarbonate/glass, as needed;

-Graffiti removal, as needed;

-Stain/paint shelters and benches;

-Wash with a pressure washer in the summer months;

-Snow plowing/shoveling, ice scraping/chipping, and salt/cinder applications during and after storms, as needed; and,

-Maintaining ADA pedestrian routes between bus stops and park-and-ride lots;

-Weed trimming and chemical applications during summer, as needed.

-Clean the floor and drains in the bus barn and wash bay monthly.

-Clean and resupply the Leadville bus barn (bathroom, trash, supplies, etc.) monthly. Assist with other maintenance on the Leadville bus barn, as needed.

-Assist with replacing bus stop schedules biannually

-Assist in building and placing new bus shelters.

-Provide coverage for Fleet Care technicians by working in the wash bay and detailing, washing, and fueling buses. Advise Supervisor of supplies needed.

For the Trails Program:

Performs general maintenance of the regional trail including, but not limited to:

-Monthly sweeping and mowing of the Eagle Valley Trail system with additional sweeping as needed after rain events, repairs, construction, etc.

-Inspect county sections monthly and town sections quarterly, with a checklist.

-Repair, replace, and install signs.

-Monitor and repair, replace, and install trail furniture, railings, and appurtenances.

-Arrange or perform crack sealing, seal coating, patching and overlays.

-Maintain shoulders (backfill, compact).

-Seasonal vegetation management in coordination with the Vegetation Management Department (Trim encroaching vegetation, spray and control weeds, mow and string trim as needed, coordinate the removal of hazardous trees).

-Empty and refill trash containers, and dog waste receptacles, and remove ground trash.

-Touch-up striping and paint markings.

-Respond to public complaints and emergency calls and arrange resolution (rocks, mudslides, down trees, etc).

-Assist with Special Projects including bridge deck repair, railing repair, excavation, fences, drainage works, root barrier, rock walls.

-Snow and ice removal, during and after storms, in coordination with other agencies and adjacent properties. -Includes monitoring weather and adjusting schedule, including weekend and early morning work, as snow season and emergency conditions dictate.

-Work with towns to assist or combine efforts on similar items on town sections, as determined by Supervisor and Trails Manager.

-Work with temporary help from outside sources (Corrections, Temp Services, Volunteers).

-Reporting to Supervisor, Manager, or Director as needed for all projects, issues, complaints, and compliance including documentation and record keeping.

-Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions.

-Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.

-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

-Must be 18 or older

-One year of experience is required in Maintenance, Construction, Mechanical, Property Management, or related fields.

-Any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

-Flagging Certification is preferred but will have the ability to obtain once hired. (Renewal is every 2 years)

-Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain is preferred.

-Valid Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Ability to drive a vehicle, including a pickup truck, mower, sweeper, toolcat, and trailer loading.

-Ability to operate hand tools, including circular saw drills, hammer drills, sawzall, reciprocating saws, table saws, jig saws, airless paint sprayers, and nail guns.

-Carpentry skills, including hammering, climbing ladders, reading a tape measure, reading a level, sawing timbers, lag bolting timers, and installing shingles on shelter.

-Basic office equipment skills, including phone, copier, word processing, and e-mail.

-Provides excellent customer service, both internally and externally in a tactful, clear, and courteous manner -while striving to exceed customer expectations; remains calm and focused in stressful and sometimes challenging situations.

-Ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience both verbally and in writing.

-Identifies what needs to be done and takes action before being asked or the situation requires it.

-Ability to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work.

-Requires continued walking, stooping, standing, crawling, crouching, and some climbing; sometimes on narrow or slippery surfaces. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; and to reach with hands and arms.

-Must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (15-44lbs) frequently.

-Ability to lift heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (50-75lbs) occasionally.
