Hiring Range: $25.26-$29.68. The maximum pay for this position is $34.10.

The Maintenance Technician will perform various maintenance duties to efficiently operate the county's facilities and grounds, and keep them in proper repair, clean and safe for public use.

The Facility's Department mission is to provide high-quality maintenance and repair for a safe, clean, productive and well-maintained physical environment for Eagle County Government buildings, grounds and fairgrounds.

Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday; on-call rotation and some overtime for snow removal, Fair & Rodeo event.

Essential Functions

-55% Performs preventive and daily maintenance on plumbing, heating, electrical and mechanical systems, including equipment and tools in all county facilities. Troubleshoots systems in-country facilities; diagnoses problems, locates defective parts and replaces them.

-30% Locks and unlocks county buildings. Runs errands as required; delivers supplies and equipment to offices; picks up tools and materials. Moves office equipment including desks, files, books, etc. for county offices. Removes and replaces mechanical locks.

-5% Repairs appliances including dishwashers, freezers, stoves, microwaves, and disposal; excluding evacuation and installation of freon.

-5% Performs groundwork as needed.

-5% Purchases parts and supplies; calls vendors for price and quality; orders and receives or picks up parts

-May supervise part-time and community service workers.

-Oversees work of contractors; monitors and inspects work in progress to ensure quality of work and timely completion of work.

-Required to be included in the on-call rotation 24 hour coverage during weekdays and weekends. During on-call shifts, must return the call within 5-10 minutes and respond to locations within 30 minutes.

-Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions

-Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures.

-Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration:

-Preferred Education or Degree: High school diploma or equivalent.

-Three years of maintenance or construction experience; or, any combination of education and experience which produces the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

-A valid state driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Drives department vehicles, truck equipped with snowplows and operates light and heavy equipment in the performance of duties and performs preventative maintenance on equipment and power tools.

-Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

-Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades.

-Knowledge of machinery and other equipment used in buildings and grounds maintenance.

-Knowledge of a variety of construction and maintenance areas including carpentry, plumbing, buildings and grounds maintenance.

-Knowledge of applicable rules and codes relating to the installation and repair of building equipment and fixtures.

-Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others.

-Interpersonal skills are necessary to be courteous of others while performing repair and maintenance duties.

-Ability to read and understand blueprints and other design drawings.

-Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools, machinery and equipment within the area of assignment.

-Ability to perform skilled trades, such as carpentry, plumbing or painting.

-Ability to diagnose facility and equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs or replacements.

-Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

-Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.

-Requires continued walking, stooping, standing, crawling, crouching, and some climbing; sometimes on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. Often ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs or hands and arms, bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; and to reach with hands and arms. Lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies, and equipment (25-50lbs.)frequently; objects weighing 100 pounds or more.
