Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or an Education Evaluation Services for Architects (EESA) equivalent degree, that meets the criteria for eligibility for Registration as a Professional Architect.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in architectural design and detailing on complex commercial, industrial, or governmental projects using CAD/BIM; drawings/plans review and analysis; contract document production and coordination; building and life safety code analysis; and field inspections

Certification/Licensure

Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license

Roadway Worker Protection (RWP), Level 2 Certification, required upon entry or within six (6) months of hire date, and must be maintained while holding the job

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job either with or without reasonable accommodation(s)SUMMARYThe Architect is responsible for the development, and production of construction documents using CAD/BIM. The incumbent plans, directs, and reviews the architectural components of reports, designs, or construction projects, and is responsible for finished plans and coordination with Structural and MEP drawings and specifications, to include the approval of material selections.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Initiates and creates project designs and plans including preparation of presentation and design drawings using freehand sketching, CAD/BIM, or other alternate design methods.

Serves as project team leader for production of construction documents.

Coordinates with WMATA stakeholders, while documenting the work and collaborating with in-house engineers.

Plans, reviews, and coordinates the architectural production of construction drawings using CAD/BIM for in­house projects. Monitors the work schedule and budget.

Consults with senior staff on technical matters. Develops and prepares presentation drawings for planning, schematic studies, preliminary designs, reports, and required drawing submittals using freehand drawing and CAD/BIM techniques.

Develops designs that comply with applicable codes and regulations, and WMATA's standard design criteria.

Reviews architectural contract documents for compliance with pertinent standards and codes.

Updates and revises the Authority's Architectural Standard and Design Directive Drawings using CAD/BIM.

Reviews contractors' shop drawings for compliance with contract documents. Coordinates with other disciplines as necessary.

Performs job-site inspections ranging from approval of initial prototypes and samples to final inspection and acceptance of Metrorail and Metrobus facilities construction and Capital Improvement Projects.

Investigates and consults with senior staff regarding field problems in the areas of building design, accessibility, and safety. Devise solutions and prepares recommendations to correct problems.
