DescriptionSAIC is seeking a Network Engineer to support a mature contract with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Maritime Administration (MARAD), Ready Reserve Force (RRF) Management System (RMS) in support of National Defense Initiatives and Requirements. This position requires extensive travel and involves measurable physical exertion when climbing ladders, gangways, or otherwise working within the restricted confines of spaces aboard ships. Candidate will work under very broad supervision in providing Tier I and Tier II support to 15+ large cargo ships throughout the Ready Reserve Fleet Pacific Operating Area. Most all work will be aboard large cargo ships in port. Some work may be required at sea. Chosen individual will be responsible for all aspects of task-level project performance (i.e., technical, contractual, and administrative). Chosen individual must be able to operate independently as well as in a team environment. Individual will regularly exercise independent judgment, as well as a high-level of analytical skill in solving complex technical problems. Individual will serve as government and contract representative for network and end user support issues on assigned ships and within assigned region to provide quality service to the Ready Reserve Force Fleet. Candidates must be permanent residents of the United States and will be required to undergo a Public Trust background investigation and fingerprinting to gain access to sensitive information. Candidates will be required to obtain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC).Core responsibilities and duties

Performs day-to-day activities required to manage data services, utilizing a broad set of tools to design, manage, and maintain all aspects of data networking

Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, end user workstations, VPN, QoS)

Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes, and security configurations

Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability

Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning

Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues

Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure

Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures

Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Task requires extensive travel and involves measurable physical exertion when climbing ladders, gangways, or otherwise working within the restricted confines of spaces aboard ships

Support RMS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE) aboard ships and associated shoreside support facilities

Support ship activations/de-activations, training cruises, and sea trials

Participate in ship replication scheduling during sea trials, activations, and training cruises

Support NSE training activities aboard ships and at MARAD offices

Develop and submit Ship/Site Visit Reports for MARAD review

Review technical documentation

Utilize superior time management and personal accountability skills to prioritize and complete multiple independent and simultaneous projects.

Proactively track recurring tasks, and provide periodic progress updates as required

QualificationsTop 3 Qualifications, Skills, Experience or Certifications:

CompTIA A+ CompTIA Network+ Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator

Preferred Qualifications Skills, Experience or Certifications:

Cisco Certified Network Associate

Bachelors and Five (5) years or more experience; Masters and Three (3) years or more experience; PhD and 0 years related experience.

Highly Desired – experience with US Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marine/commercial maritime operations Thorough knowledge of networking essentials.
