Project Accountant

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Project Accountant role based in Washington, District of Columbia. The Project Accountant will be a key part of our team, handling a wide range of accounting functions. This includes monitoring compliance with financial obligations, analyzing budget reports, and maintaining accurate accounting documentation. Responsibilities: Monitor compliance with programmatic objectives and financial obligations as per contracts and grant agreements Conduct reviews and analyses of approved budget versus actual program status reports for data accuracy and prevention of cost overruns Oversee and analyze monthly award expenditures, funding obligations, and program budget projections Ensure accuracy and compliance of accounting file documentation Prepare quarterly SF-425 financial reports and other reporting functions to funders Act as a liaison for field audits and keep management informed of pending issues Assist in the startup and closeout of finance systems and project accounts upon completion Review and import monthly field reports into the home office accounting system Reconcile project balance sheet accounts including bank accounts, employee travel advances, advances to sub-recipients, deferred revenue accounts, contract receivable balances, payroll liabilities, and inter-company accounts Monitor progress made to fulfill all program cost-sharing commitments Oversee review and analysis of program payment requests and cash requests Provide clear oral and written communication to support financial and non-financial staff on various accounting issues Travel to overseas project locations to facilitate training and capacity building. Requirements Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems Demonstrable experience with Accounting Functions Knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) Skilled in Auditing processes and procedures Familiarity with QuickBooks software Understanding of International Accounting norms and practices Familiarity with International Accounting Standards (IAS) Knowledge of GAAP Accounting principles Experience with High-Volume Invoicing Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies. Examples include: facilitating workshops for business process design, using Lean Six Sigma (LSS), project management, and other process improvement strategies; leading process improvement projects; providing process improvement consulting services; recommending automation tools or methods for processes; developing business plans; developing organizational business models; developing business strategies; and developing actionable deliverables including standard operating procedures, automation tools, or project management frameworks. Certification by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional is preferred, but not required. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is preferred, but not required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
