Summary Gallery Protection Officer II are armed and commissioned as United States Special Police Officers, have arrest authority, normally serve in uniform and when necessary wear plain clothes in the performance of his/her duties. They serve in various assignments over a period of time, during hours when the National Gallery of Art is open to the public and during non-public non-operating night time hours. Responsibilities The incumbent will: Deny admission to undesirable or unauthorized persons, prevents unauthorized removal of National Gallery property, answers inquiries from visitors and aids persons in distress. Serves at stationary posts or patrols heavily trafficked public areas or locations that are vulnerable to crimes against persons, theft, vandalism and other damage. Possess knowledge of emergency alarms and fire procedures. Possess knowledge of First aid and CPR. Possess knowledge of pertinent laws relating to arrests, arrest authority and procedures, search, seizure and detention of persons. Follow oral and written instructions. Summary This position is in the Immediate Office of the Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretaries in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs (PM) and oversees the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs (CPA) staff. PM provides policy direction in the areas of international security, security assistance, military operations, defense strategy and plans, and defense trade. CPA is responsible for managing the PM’s congressional affairs, public affairs, and public diplomacy functions. Responsibilities Develops and advises on U.S. policies and programs to leverage U.S. funding and assistance in foreign military finance, arms transfers, and other security assistance and security cooperation programs to support U.S. national security objectives. Represents the Bureau (PM) at Department meetings, the Department at interagency meetings, and the United States government at international meetings pertaining to security assistance and security programs.
