Thomas Custom Builders, a family-owned design build firm specializing in custom residential construction in the Northern Virginia area, is growing its business and is seeking an Estimator that can immediately add value to the organization and mesh with the dynamic, hardworking, and adaptable team that exists today. Roles and Responsibilities
Analyze drawings and specifications.
Understand contractual terms and conditions.
Assemble accurate and well-organized estimates and written proposals in a timely manner for Stipulated Price, Design-Build and Construction/Project Management formatted projects.
Provide clear detailed quantity take offs.
Organize sub-contractor quotations, negotiate to ensure quotes meet contract documents and issue proper documented purchase orders.
Ensure project files are provided with proper documentation related to project.
Work with and adjust for concerns of field personnel relating to pricing/costs.
Calculate the total cost of building projects.
Consult with experts to get advice on difficult cost estimations.
Estimate all material and labor costs for a project
Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costing.
Formulate cost break down from estimates and for project progress.
Meet with potential clients and design team to discuss options for proposed services.
Develop complete budgets for projects.
Help keep building project within the client’s budget guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
3-5 years of proven experience estimating projects into the $2 million range.
Experience in the ICI building sectors of the construction industry.
Experience with estimating software and spreadsheet design.
Strong math and science skills.
Must be detail oriented.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Graduate from recognized engineering, architectural or construction management program is an asset.
Knowledge of the complex workings of plumbing, electrical, ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems.
Good interpersonal skills.
Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team.
Must have valid drivers license and vehicle.
