The Portfolio Analytics & Strategy team, part of the Portfolio Management Office, is responsible for driving analysis to support R&D investment decisions which enables execution of Amgen’s long-term strategy, ensuring portfolio health, and maximizing pipeline portfolio value. In this critical role, you will support decision-makers and teams by generating portfolio insights that help balance risk and opportunity with resource demands, guiding trade-off decisions. Further, you will contribute to the assessment, prioritization, and optimization of the overall R&D pipeline portfolio and long-term planning.Key Responsibilities:Portfolio Analysis

Supports R&D portfolio management, portfolio prioritization and investment decision processes by leading analysis leveraging relevant measures of cost, risk, time, and value.

Identify portfolio trends, forecast productivity and throughput, and communicate potential pipeline opportunities, challenges, and gaps.

Oversees the portfolio data and enterprise analytics platform, ensuring consistency in portfolio tracking, reporting, benchmarking, and performance management across all areas.

Decision Analysis

Facilitates decision-making for Portfolio Governance (PG) by conducting portfolio analysis, assessing the balance between risk, cost, and potential opportunities.

Works collaboratively across functions to communicate and align on the value, cost, and risk of initiatives within the broader portfolio, providing insights and developing alternative strategies and recommendations for key decision-makers.

Leads efforts to improve and standardize product valuation methods, policies, and tools at Amgen, incorporating decision analysis techniques and innovative analytical approaches.

Portfolio Strategy

Supports development of pipeline strategy by conducting portfolio analysis/ assessments and generation ad-hoc portfolio analysis and insights for PG leadership

Supports Executive Leadership with conducting analysis and developing business insights that are integral to development of strategic actions to address key issues across R&D, Commercial (GCO) and Operations (Ops), and that support optimizing the value of our product portfolio

Doctorate degree and 2 years of related experience Or

Master’s degree and 4 years of related experience Or

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related experience Or

Associate’s degree and 10 years of related experience Or

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years in Biotech / Pharma or Management Consulting, experience in life sciences R&D portfolio management, strategy/ strategic planning, decision analysis/sciences, and / or financial analysis and planning

Advanced degree in business or medicine/science

Strong understanding of drug development and commercialization

Understanding of valuation methods (DCF) and financial analysis

Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking – able to synthesize information to identify relevant insights

Strong executive presence with senior leaders including the ability to communicate effectively on a prepared and ad-hoc basis

Basic understanding of decision analysis and probabilistic modeling

Comfortable advocating strategic positions in the face of uncertainty

Comfortable with ambiguous work assignments and experience managing change in a complex, matrix organization

Ability to quickly develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders

Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with little oversight and has outstanding time management and self-prioritization skills
