Small Planes Coffee is seeking a well-qualified, enthusiastic candidate to fill the role of Roastery Operations Manager at our coffee roasting facility in Washington DC. Small Planes is a seven-year-old coffee company that is defined by three core values: the relentless pursuit of coffee quality, an authentic commitment to fair and sustainable business practices, and a friendly, accessible approach to customer service.

Job Overview

The Roastery Operations Manager's role is to oversee roastery operations, including managing production and fulfillment of orders across all channels, facility maintenance and cleanliness, customer satisfaction and care, and other overarching responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

Oversee Roasting and Production Teams

Staff scheduling

Communications and coordination

Roastery protocols and workflow

Create and help implement systems, spreadsheets, tools

HR-related questions, requests, employee satisfaction, reviews

Develop and maintain employee handbook

Facility Maintenance

Equipment maintenance and repair

Supplies, inventory and cleanliness

Storage plan and delivery management

Attention to sustainability and waste streams

Maintain facility to be “ready for visitors” 100% of the time


Customer Satisfaction and Care

Email correspondence including guest recovery and troubleshooting

Special client correspondence and meetings

Delegate customer needs to other staff members as needed

Overarching Responsibilities

Special events and initiatives

Implement systems to reduce waste of green and roasted coffee

Support other roastery teams as needed

Oversee design, website, merchandise

Lead general team meetings, department leadership meetings

Special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Aptitude utilizing tools such as email, Shopify, Cropster, Excel, Google Suite, partner platforms, payroll administration

Knowledge of coffee supply chain, logistics, retail and grocery

Experience in management, delegation and collaboration

Interest in using logical problem-solving to implement and refine production systems.

Self-motivated when working independently.

Effective team player when assisting co-workers.

Professional commitment to maintaining Small Planes’ quality and customer service standards.

Able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly

Able to lift up to 70 pounds with assistance

Current driver's license and clean driving record
