Communications AssistantApply now (https://secure.dc4.pageuppeople.com/apply/674/gateway/default.aspx?c=apply&lJobID=530595&lJobSourceTypeID=796&sLanguage=en-us) Job no: 530595 Work type: Staff Full-Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Communications/Public Relations/Marketing, Veteran's Preference Eligible Department: 57203000 - FSG-COMMUNICATIONS Classification Title:Communications AssistantJob Description:The Communications Assistant supports Florida Sea Grant’s (FSG) communications team with a variety of tasks and is responsible for the following: Identifying, obtaining, cataloging, submitting, and promoting FSG supported publications.The assistant is responsible for the publication’s tracking requirements of FSG, including submission of recent publications to the National Sea Grant Office. In addition to managing this process, the assistant will also liaise with the research team to maintain project updates and develop draft communications products for promotion via social media, newsletters, or the web. Supporting the delivery of social media-based activities and website maintenance.Under the guidance of the Art/Creative Director, this position will be expected to update websites and social media channels, help support projects such as audio/video-based productions and events, and complete or assist with special projects. General office support.The assistant will maintain merchandise inventory and other materials managed by the communications team; be responsible for mailing communications-related materials; and under the guidance of the Art/Creative Director, assist staff, faculty and students with training or questions on communications templates and resources. Routine duties include providing telephone/email support and maintaining listservs and distribution lists.Organize digital content and ensure public-facing content is accessible. Organize photo and video libraries and maintain inventory of communications content with added metadata; ensure website(s) photos have alt-text and captions and assist in updating existing PDFs and documents to be ADA compliant and accessibleOther duties or projects as assignedTypically works under verbal and written supervision provided by the Art/Creative Director or other administrative leadership. May assist in training or other support staff. Works independently for most tasks and in a team environment for others. Daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Florida Sea Grant office on the University of Florida campus. Some travel may be required on nights and weekends. Expected Salary:Commensurate with education and experienceMinimum Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; of specialization and one year of appropriate experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with and communicating well with the public and with faculty researchers

Experience communicating research and science for all audiences

Understanding of academic publications and navigating academic journals

Experience with WordPress

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite applications

Experience using Google Analytics and social media scheduling tools

Familiarity with Florida Sea Grant’s research, education and extension programming

Proficiency in multiple languages
