Summary:

The Driller’s Helper is a key role, responsible for assisting the driller in the operation of drilling equipment to bore exploratory vertical holes into the earth to evaluate soil type and strength characteristics. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and autonomy are valued.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensures that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle

Ensures that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures

Assists the drill crew chief in performing drilling services and well installations by operating drilling equipment to bore exploratory vertical holes into the earth to evaluate soil type and strength characteristics

Operates misc. equipment such as pneumatic jackhammers for breaking of concrete and operation of water/steam pressure washers to wash the drilling equipment, rods, augers, bits, casings, trucks, and trailers

Performs manual labor by assembling and disassembling drilling equipment

Lawfully operates a commercial vehicle

Cleans trucks and drill rigs

Gets equipment together for that day’s projects

Assists Driller whenever necessary

Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable

Locations may be local or require out-of-town travel; travel may be overnight or up to several days, larger or longer projects may require longer out-of-town stays.

Completes daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy

Turns in required paperwork daily

Regular attendance is required

Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekend schedules may be necessary to support business needs

Follows all company safety procedures and policies

Other duties may be assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)

Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)

Ability to complete OSHA 40-hour class

Ability to obtain Certificate with 8-Hour Annual Refresher Course Certificate

Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients

Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form

Preferred Qualifications:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

One to three years of prior drilling experience is preferred

Class A CDL Preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

On average the workdays range from 7 - 12 hours. The driller’s primary duty is that of a laborer with extensive manual lifting and handling

The materials collections process (i.e. soils, concrete, asphalt, etc.) is repetitive in nature several times per hour

The manual lifting is performed individually and in tandem, when necessary, with the Head Driller or other driller’s helper(s)

The following equipment and products are lifted, carried, and manipulated: Steel drill rods, steel drill casings, steel augers, steel drill tip bits, and 50 lb. bags of sand, cement, and bentonite.; the rods, augers, casings, and drill tip bits weigh up to 100+ pounds

The weights manually lifted range from 0 to 200+ pounds. Weights in the 5 - 75-pound range are lifted frequently (From 33% up to 66% of the task period) with a frequency range of 10 – 35 repetitions per hour

Weights in the range of 25 – 200+ pounds (drill rods, hollow-stem auger bits, and casings) are lifted frequently (From 15% to 30% of the task period) with a range of 0 - 15 repetitions per hour, on average, with or without reasonable accommodation

Weights in the range of 25 – 200+ pounds (drill rods, hollow-stem auger bits, and casings) are lifted frequently (From 15% to 30% of the task period) with a range of 5 - 15 repetitions per hour, on average, with or without reasonable accommodation

Depending upon the location of the support truck(s) and trailer in proximity to the drill rig, the equipment and materials are manually lifted and carried/moved, ranging from a 0 to 75+ feet, on average, in walking distance, with or without reasonable accommodation

In addition to manual lifting, body motions and movements include bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, and pushing; these body motions/movements are performed continuously (on average from 66% up to 100% of the task period) to perform the physical manual work tasks involved with the drilling operations and related tasks

This job is in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions

Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle, including wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles

This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
