Job Description:
We are looking for a candidate who has a strong mechanical design background to be our sign estimator. You will play a critical role in our estimating and pre-production phase, ensuring that we submit competitive and profitable bids for sign projects. Your expertise in sign design, cost analysis, project specifications, and industry trends will directly impact our bottom line and our ability to meet client needs effectively. You will work closely with the sales and production teams to ensure all estimates align with project goals and timelines. This estimator role will have an emphasis on the mechanical design of signs to help the company standardize on our designs to ensure sustainability in the future.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Analysis: Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and technical drawings to understand the scope and requirements of each project thoroughly.
2. Cost Estimation: Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead costs. This includes calculating quantities, assessing material costs, and projecting labor needs based on project scope and complexity.
3. Collaboration: Work closely with the sales and design teams to gather project details and address any technical inquiries. Maintain open communication to ensure all parties are aligned on project expectations.
4. Site Visits: Conduct site assessments as needed to evaluate project conditions and requirements, surveying, and providing insights that will enhance the accuracy of estimates.
5. Database Management: Maintain and update the company’s estimating database to ensure material and labor cost accuracy, streamline the estimating process, and enhance efficiency.
6. Estimating Tool Development: Work with leadership to develop estimating tools allowing for faster and more accurate estimates
7. Proposal Development: Work with the sales team to create proposals to clients that clearly outline costs, project timelines, and scope of work, ensuring transparency and clarity.
8. Market Research: Assist with monitoring industry trends, competitor pricing, and material costs to inform competitive bidding strategies and ensure our offerings remain attractive.
9. Budgeting Support: Assist project managers during the execution phase by providing insights on budget adherence and advising on any changes or discrepancies that arise.
10. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in estimating practices and recommend changes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, specifically within the sign manufacturing, construction, or related industry.
- Proven track record of success in estimating, preferably in the signage industry or related field
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Familiarity with sign design software (COREL) and CAD software is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and team
- Exceptional analytical and mathematical skills with a strong attention to detail to ensure precision in cost estimates.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, building strong relationships across departments.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred (experience can substitute for degree on a case-by-case basis)
