Partner with the Ohio Department of Health ( ODH ) to set overall vision, mission, and strategic direction for oral health to assist with the development of the annual work plan to improve the oral health status of all Ohioans and their access to dental care.

Formulate and direct implementation of statewide oral health policies. Ensure the ODH oral health programs are following best clinical practices.

Integrate oral health into other Bureau of Maternal, Child, and Family Health and departmental programs that have an oral health component (e.g. Chronic Disease, Tobacco, Children with Medical Handicaps, AIDS /Ryan White, Immunization and Preparedness.)

Develop standards of care for oral health programs funded through ODH and oversee the training, dissemination, and monitoring of compliance with those standards. As required by ORC 4715.22, provides general supervision to ODH licensed dental hygienists

Oversee Ohio’s oral health surveillance system and analyze and interpret oral health data and the latest developments and research in oral health and oral health care delivery (e.g., preventive dentistry, oral epidemiology, dental treatment, oral health workforce, planning, dental care delivery systems, reimbursement and cost containment (e.g. value based care .

Set policies and work with outside local, state and federal agencies and organizations, community-based dental programs, professional dental and public health organizations, dental schools and other stakeholders to advance oral health across the lifespan.

Communicate ODH’s position on oral health legislation and issues through the development of written statements, technical and/or legal documents.

Collaborate with dentists in Ohio, with a focus on Southeast Ohio to increase the network of comprehensive dental care for uninsured patients.

Reach out to statewide and regional dental associations to explore program opportunities and partnerships.

Contribute to educational process of healthcare students at Ohio University including medical and nursing students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctor of Dental Surgery ( DDS )

3 years work experience

License to practice dentistry in Ohio

Resident of Ohio

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference given to candidates who have a Master’s of Public Health degree

Experience in leading community-based dental disease and oral health promotion programs preferred

Knowledge of oral epidemiology, dental care delivery systems and reimbursement, strategic planning, methods of conducting oral health surveillance and data analysis and reporting

Demonstrated ability in public speaking, collaboration and technical or scientific writing

Offers outside of this range are subject to additional approvals.
