This opportunity allows partial telework with management approval.Limited Period PositionThe Maine CDC, Drinking Water Program (DWP), is seeking an Environmental Specialist III to provide technical support and assistance in implementing the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) rules and regulations. The Drinking Water Program is tasked with overseeing over 1900 public drinking water systems throughout Maine, administering federal and state safe drinking water regulations to ensure that water systems provide safe, secure, and reliable drinking water.JOB DESCRIPTION: Cybersecurity and physical security, as well as resilience to threats due to climate change (e.g., drought, flooding, intense storms, etc.) are becoming an increasingly important component of public drinking water protection, and the work required to address these issues is increasing rapidly. In this position, you will serve as a Security and Resilience Coordinator, responsible for developing and implementing procedures for protecting public water systems from cybersecurity and other threats and increasing their resilience to the changing environment. Core Responsibilities Administer DWP Cybersecurity Program and assess needed revisions and updates to the DWP Cybersecurity Program consistent with EPA regulations. Assess needs for cybersecurity, physical security and resilience education and outreach material both internal and external to the DWP. Assess needed revisions to DWP Emergency Response Plan and other emergency preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery materials.Minimum Qualifications:(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience).A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.Preferred candidates will also have: Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and principles. Ability to practice good customer service skills and behaviors in all contacts with clients, co-workers, and the public. Ability to follow a Standard Operating Procedure in a fast-paced environment.
