If so, your next career may be with Maine’s Department of Education as the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner. As the Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, you will:
Provide advanced administrative work including:
administering the Commissioner’s calendar,
organizing meetings with and for the Commissioner,
researching and preparing for initiatives and meetings,
preparing reports, presentations, informational materials and other communications,
setting up necessary technology, scheduling and hosting virtual meetings, and
ensuring the efficient, orderly operation of an extremely busy office.
This position has high level public relations responsibilities, including (but not limited to) communicating on behalf of the Commissioner with members of the public, legislators, the media, the Governor, and other state agency executives.
Successful candidates will have:
Excellent critical thinking and organizational skills
The ability to manage change and shifting priorities based on leadership requests
Impeccable independent judgment
Proactive and self-directed initiative
Informed decision making on complex administrative matters
The ability to compose, review, and edit complex and/ or technical business correspondence
Discretion and judgement in dispensing information
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, Excel and Word, as well as Zoom
Knowledge of research principles, including conducting research, gathering information, analyzing results and making sound conclusions and or recommendations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training, education, or experience in administrative work that demonstrates:
1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks at the statewide level that are broad in scope and functionally diverse, and
2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and decision making on complex administrative matters.
