Cultural Property Security Officer (Part-time) Posting Number C00376JP Department Safety and Security Job Summary This is a casual (non-benefit eligible role). Schedules are flexible depending on the needs of the department – on average 12-19 hours per week.The Museum Security Officer has general responsibility for public safety, property protection, and is responsible for maintaining order and secure conditions within the Museum and on the Museum grounds.
Positions are available at the Museum of Art and the Center for Arctic Studies.
Officers perform a variety of duties, following policies and procedures to maintain the protection of cultural properties and ensure the safety of visitors, students and staff.
Duties Include supervising and assisting visitors, responding to emergency situations, observing for fire, theft, vandalism, and other threats.
Hourly rate for this position is $18.00/ per hourEducation/Skills Requirements Required:
A high School diploma or equivalent
Strong customer service and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure in a calm manner when stressful circumstances occur.
Must we able to work with a wide variety of people in varying situations
Ability to complete detailed written incident reports, logs, forms, and written communications concerning work related activities
Preferred:
Successful completion of some college work
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Preferred:
CPR and AED certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire
Previous experience working in a customer facing role
Standard Work Days and Hours
Casual Museum Security Officers are scheduled to work between 12 – 19 hours/per week.
The Museum requires year-round, 7-days/week security coverage. Museum Security Officer shifts are scheduled between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., including weekend hours and possible overtime.
Fall Museum Hours are between 7:00am – 7:00pm with later evening hours scheduled for events and late openings.
This position is intended to be flexible, maintaining regularly scheduled hours/week, but the officer can be assigned to: other shifts as operationally necessary; possible mandatory weekend hours and black out days;additional hours may be required for shift coverage, especially during significant College events (e.g. Commencement, Reunion, Exhibit Openings and Special Functions).
Officers are subject to call in or may be required to stay beyond regular assigned hours due to operational needs, as determined by the Assistant Director for Security Operations and the Assistant Director of Cultural Property Security.
