We are seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead our fundraising, philanthropic engagement, and community outreach efforts. This role is pivotal in ensuring Mercy Care can fulfill its mission of serving Atlanta’s most vulnerable populations by securing financial resources and fostering meaningful community relationships.As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO will play a transformative role in shaping Mercy Care’s future. This includes modernizing fundraising strategies, diversifying support networks, and deepening community engagement. With Mercy Care’s 40th Anniversary approaching in 2025, this position offers a unique opportunity to honor our legacy while charting a bold and impactful path forward.What You Will Do:As the Chief Development Officer, your responsibilities include:

Fundraising Leadership : Oversee all fundraising activities, including major gift cultivation, campaigns, events, and grant writing/reporting, supporting Mercy Care’s $35 million annual budget.

Community Engagement : Develop robust volunteer programs, donor relationships, and community events to deepen engagement with Mercy Care’s mission.

Team Management : Supervise and guide the development, grant writing, volunteer engagement, and database management teams.

Strategic Collaboration : Partner with senior leaders to align development initiatives with organizational goals, including tracking patient health outcomes and identifying strategic funding opportunities.

Board Partnership : Collaborate with the CEO and Mercy Care Foundation Board to drive philanthropic initiatives and foster donor relationships.

Program Oversight : Ensure compliance with policies, maintain mission alignment, and uphold Mercy Care’s values of compassion, excellence, and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications:Education:

Master’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

CFRE or ACFRE accreditation is a plus.

Experience:

Fifteen years of progressive management experience in positions responsible for fundraising and development management in comparable size or larger organization.

Demonstrated relationships with donor communities including key healthcare and socially focused in local and national foundations. Supervision of grant writing professionals preferred.

Must have solid working knowledge and experience in fundraising, including financial principles, events planning, volunteer management, grants management and public relations.

Experience with Federal and Georgia State funding sources and knowledge of the metro Atlanta donor community is also strongly preferred.

Skills:

Ability to interact with all levels of an organization. Thorough knowledge of management theory and practice and an understanding of community healthcare delivery in non-profit organizations.

Demonstrates sound management principles and knowledge of effective interpersonal relationships.

Solid community relationship building capabilities especially with donor community.

Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.

Ability to plan, organize, and manage multi-year strategies and complex operations effectively.

Demonstrate excellent communication skills and constructive conflict resolution; collect, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources and take appropriate action.

Proven ability to recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate management staff while developing and implementing effective growth plans.
