License and Certification Qualifications: Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) certification preferred.Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.Experience Qualifications: Two years experience in customer service or a professional environment required. Experience in a school system preferred.Skills Qualifications: Ability to communicate with others in an effective and tactful manner; strong organizational skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals (i.e. General Directive Manual, GCIC Manual, etc.); general knowledge of all office machines; excellent telephone techniques; strong computer data entry skills; ability to keep detailed and accurate records; ability to use judgment and decision-making skills to evaluate situations and establish priorities; ability to work well under pressure; knowledgeable in basic computer applications including the Microsoft Office Suite; ability to become certified as GCIC terminal operator; and ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools.Primary Responsibilities: Provide support to law enforcement officers and district personnel by performing dispatcher duties to ensure the safety and security of students and employees of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS).1. Perform all dispatcher duties for the Department of Safety and Security.a. Receive and dispatch field units via radios and/or telephone systems.b. Monitor camera systems within the school system, including 800 and 400 radios used by officers and schools.c. Operate communication systems including computers, radios, and telephones.d. Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into system for dispatch purposes.e. Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.f. Notify on-call personnel of call-outs and assignments.g. Notify designated personnel (i.e. reunification team) responsible at each school for catastrophic emergenciesvia Lotus Notes e-mail, if needed.h. Answer emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public for school system law enforcement officers.i. Response and code all request for law enforcement officers.2. Perform general clerical duties for the Department of Safety and Security.a. File department documents and materials and operate routine office machinery.b. Maintain appropriate logs for the Department of Safety and Security.c. Access a variety of computer information systems and databases to retrieve, verify, and enter data (i.e. Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), GCPS Portal, student databases, etc.).3. Assist with communications for the Department of Safety and Security.a. Represent the department professionally in all aspects of written and oral communication.b. Communicate to customers via the radio, telephone, written, and in person, in a professional and businesslike manner according to department procedures.c. Cooperate and maintain a positive relationship with other district personnel inside and outside the department as well as parents, students, and other law enforcement agencies.4. Utilize telecommunications equipment courteously in the efficient operation of the district.5. Route incoming and outgoing correspondence accurately.6. Cooperate with and maintain a positive relationship with all other school system employees.7. Work as required after normal hours.8. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. High stress levels for extended periods of time may occur due to the nature of the emergency telephone call center. This position may require 24-hour on-call assignments, over-time, working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts depending on the need.
