Job Purpose

The Youth Services Specialist (YSS) will plan, arrange and organize programs, including youth development and social service case and group work. Collaborate with lead and teammates to identify vulnerabilities, strengths and opportunities of Native Hawaiian youth, families and communities to build capacity of the families and the community. Utilize and remain informed on current data, research, practice models and trends related to Native Hawaiians to inform practice and ensure alignment with LTʻs 2045 vision. Take a collective approach with community partners to fulfill the Queenʻs mission to care for and ensure the well-being of the most vulnerable Native Hawaiian children and their families.

Essential Responsibilities

Assesses individual and family situations to determine the degree of safe, nurturing, and permanent environment for the child and works with family to develop a plan to address any concerns and overall well-being.

Responsibilities: program design including developing program plans, manuals and risk assessments.

Provides in-depth counseling to assist individuals, families and groups addressing a variety of complex concerns and establishes clear and achievable long and short-range goals, outcomes, and indicators that promote sustainability and self-sufficiency.

Coordinates activities, gatherings, and events for beneficiaries and their families.

Documents work: assessments, progress reports, recommendations, etc. that are understandable and, in the agency-approved format.

Participates in analyzing relevant data, incorporating best practice, trauma-informed and Native Hawaiian based approaches to the design and development of projects that build upon existing resources and strengths, establishing clear and achievable long-, and short-range goals, outcomes, indicators and budgets.

Participates in the implementation and evaluation of projects/programs for effectiveness, sustainability and self-sufficiency.

Provides opportunities for youth leadership, voice, and empowerment by facilitating the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and actions needed for youth to influence, motivate, inform, and inspire desired actions and reactions by others.

Consistently provides multiple opportunities for child/youth-initiated and child/youth-directed process and content choices. Intentionally provides leadership opportunities for all children and youth, including encouraging participants to take responsibility for content and process of their group work.

Provides outreach services to individuals, groups and communities regarding Liliʻuokalani Trust’s programs and services.

Other duties:

Participates in program planning, budget development, revision, and evaluation.

Provides transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations.

Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development.

Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related social services degree.

At least two years post-Master's experience in casework/permanency planning and minimum one year community or macro level experience.

Experience in planning and implementing youth programs. Knowledge of youth development and the ability to work with the most vulnerable population.

Experience working with systems involved youth preferred

Valid driver license, clean traffic abstract, and access to a privately owned automobile with valid no-fault insurance.

TB clearance.

First Aid and CPR/AED Certification, preferred.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under-pressure, remain clam and controlled when face with difficult situation. Strives for immediate address.

Travel Requirements

In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position in order to successfully contribute to our concerted efforts to carry out our Queen’s legacy.

Physical Requirements

Performs light physical work, including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Exposed to outdoor climate and diverse terrain.
