Agricultural Processor position available at the Hawai'i 'Ulu Co-op's Hilo facility!
Agricultural processors at the 'Ulu Coop transform raw agricultural goods and ingredients into finished products. At the 'Alae facility in Hilo, much of our work currently revolves around the production of 'ulu flour and flour-derived products, and may involve working with common allergens including wheat, tree nuts, and dairy. The scope of this work is constantly evolving as we develop new products and processes!
Working hours are decided in advance of production days, but generally will fall between 0630 and 1700, with shifts typically not exceeding 8 hours. Recently shifts have been 6-7 hours, running from 0800 to 1400 or 1500. Processors are expected to be regularly available for shifts to remain in good standing at the co-op. Currently the kitchen schedules 3-6 shifts per month.
More frequent, shorter shifts (2-5h/day) may also be available on an as-needed basis.
Shifts involve physical labor, including operating machinery and moving up to 50lbs. Good vision (including corrected vision), hearing (including corrected hearing), and situational and spatial awareness are important parts of staying safe in the kitchen.
Agricultural processors must follow the HUC Dress Standards for personal and product safety.
This position starts at $17.00/hr.
