The Salvation Army Addiction Treatment Services (ATS) is seeking to fill a full-time In-Facility Counselor position. Under the direct supervision of the In-facility Correctional Services Supervisor, the In-Facility Counselor provides assessment and treatment planning services, progress notes, discharge documentation, individual and group education counseling, continuing and aftercare services for Hawaii State sentenced offenders participating in correctional treatment continuum services funded by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR). Delivery of services must be in accordance with the recommendation of the CPC (Correctional Program Checklist) to insure services are utilizing evidence-based practices of cognitive-behavioral and social learning models. Assists supervisor with maintaining effective liaison with various representatives of DCR. Complies with rules, regulations, and program requirements as defined by contracts with DCR. The counselor must adhere to the expectation and guidelines that are noted in the volunteer and contract handbook (including the Federal mandated PREA guideline (Prison Rape Elimination Act) training offered by DCR for all new contract staff and volunteers.
Masters degree in behavior health field and/or Hawaii State Substance Abuse Counselor Certification (CSAC); and at least two years of experience in the substance use disorder field preferred. Three years experience working directly with incarcerated and/or sentenced offenders is preferred. Must have at least six months direct involvement in individual and group treatment. Demonstrated abilities and skills regarding verbal and written communications, maturity, insight and sound judgment. Knowledge and experience in working with offenders is required. Must be eligible for counselor State certification within two years of hire.
