Our team designs, develops and maintains massively scaling technology solutions brought to life with innovative architectures, data analytics, and digital solutions.The Director IT – Customer Travel Services provides the leadership, strategic vision and technology execution for United’s industry leading customer travel platforms including seating automation, upgrades, check-in, and travel readiness. This role leads the technology portfolio of high throughput, advanced technology that orchestrates each of these travel processes and data to ensure a fantastic customer experience and smooth operation.This position will lead all aspects of the development lifecycle for customer travel applications as well as heavy collaboration with other technology, commercial, and operational leaders. This leader will drive a development lifecycle that includes Project Management/Scrum Leadership, Solution Architecture, Development, Test Activities, Database Development, DevOps, Cloud Platform Ops and Release Management. The leader in this role will be responsible for ensuring that development activities in this area are coordinated with the enterprise service teams, Digital Product teams, and relevant governance and security requirement teams.Key Responsibilities:
Develop a multi-year application development strategy that aligns with corporate and IT related goals and vision, adapts strategy as technology and business needs evolve. Stay abreast of business strategy, goals, objectives, and operational performance.
Understand and provide recommendations for improvement of Business Processes by applying existing IT capabilities, identifying improvements to existing IT capabilities, and defining new strategic IT capabilities. Function as the point of contact and facilitate the work request demand and prioritization process. Advance, assist, and follow through on the resolution of issues related to the delivery of technology solutions. Communicate strategy, goals, and measurable components to senior IT and Business leadership to drive success and accountability across the organization.
Establish and maintain strong business relationships with both senior and operating level business leaders to ensure effective delivery of business deliverables and technology solutions. Educate business partners on roles, responsibilities, processes, and work required to ensure effective delivery of new technology solutions.
Lead and oversee projects to ensure delivery of work requests and projects are within committed budget, on schedule, and the quality of individual projects meets the overall department performance goals. Aligning with business partners on delivery success criteria and ensuring technology solutions follow architectural standards. Provide cost estimates and business case updates to support overall IT performance metrics, monthly project status reporting and quarterly resource planning review.
Identify needs, secure commitments, and monitor progress of tasks from internal and external service provider teams. Successfully integrate project and program initiatives with other software applications. Responsible for escalating, assisting and follow-through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutions.
Guide teams in designing, building, testing, and deploying changes to existing software. Ensure adherence to code scanning and other security protocols are adhered to during releases. Oversee the application admin team assigned to financial applications.
Empower, coach, and develop team members. Establish department and individual’s goals including performance reviews and career and performance plans. Responsible for developing and maintaining an overall sourcing plan which includes creative sourcing options and alternatives to ensure supply capacities meet work demand, role and skills required and cost objectives. Assess and recommend improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilities.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration.
10+ years of relevant experience.
5+ years of management experience in an IT or leadership related role.
Prior experience in complex cloud migrations using third party service providers.
Experience required in 24x7 operational systems, third party vendor management for large SaaS solutions.
Prior experience managing critically important systems as well as large scale program management and operational excellence.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
Master of Science degree in Computer Science or Master of Business Administration
Experience in application development strategy within multiple medium-large scale projects/programs.
Familiar with working within a multi-disciplined, cross-functional technical organization with matrixes reporting relationship.
Experience in travel industry is a significant plus.
