Sr. Lead Back-end Developer

Nuveen is seeking a talented Sr. Lead Back-end Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a blend of unique technical expertise, limitless curiosity, and possess an analytical mindset. This role will be working independently as well as with a team in the design and development of mission-critical websites, applications, and layers of infrastructure.This role will lead the Backend Engineering team in designing and implementing server-side components like API's, micro services, and ETL processes for strategic applications. This includes integration of third-party systems, connecting frontend components to backend processes, and configuration of information technology software. This role guides engineers in best practices, ensures compliance with the SDLC, leads architecture review sessions, conducts code reviews, and ensures quality delivery of complex software components.This position owns various functions, processes, and systems related to the Separately Managed Account (SMA) platform. The role has significant leadership responsibilities working across Product Technology and Nuveen Technology making critical decisions on application/component design, system integration, and delivery. This position will manage a team of approximately 5+ engineers plus indirect team members.We are seeking an individual who has expertise with Java, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and developing micros services to succeed quickly in this role. Designs, codes, develops, and unit tests applications in accordance with established standards.

Analyzes issues and resolves bottlenecks.

Designs robust APIs to support projects.

Monitors development work to ensure resulting software meets established requirements andbusiness value.

Partners with the Product Analysts and UI Development teams to groom the backlog, plansprints, design solutions, and deliver according to plans.

Hands-on ownership of software development and delivery including post deploymentactivities.

Manage and optimize scalable distributed systems in the cloud.

Optimize server-side components for performance and scalability.

Develop automated test scripts to ensure business needs are met and allow for regressiontesting.

Communicate routinely with stakeholders, project managers, quality assurance teams, andother developers regarding progress on long-term technology roadmap.

Produce quality code, raising the bar for team performance and speed.

Recommend best-fit technologies and lead buy v. build decisions to deliver best-in-classapplications for the business.

Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to team members.

Manage a cross-region team and project implementation.

Provide team with career planning, mentorship, ensuring best practices and alignment to the SDLC.

Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on, proficient experience developing in a micro services architecture.

At least 4 years’ experience with core AWS web-enabling technologies.

At least 4 years’ experience programming with Java, Amazon Web Services (AWS serverless architecture), Python, Micro Services, APIs’, ETL, Git, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), Messaging (Kafka), and JIRA.

At least 4 years of familiarity with server frameworks like Node.js, Django, and Spring.

At least 5 years of experience with Authentication and Authorization technologies – JSON Web Tokens, OAuth tom protect API’s and sensitive data.

Preferred:

Prior experience leading a team.

Possess a growth mindset that challenges the status quo and focuses on outside-of-the-box ideas and solutions.

Experience working within the financial services industry, preferably asset management.
