I own and manage an apartment building in Chicago, an 8 unit in Portage Park.
Looking for a part-time building handyman and / or maintenance lead.
Must have previous similar work experience, generally personable with tenants, and speak fluent English.
Not looking for a general contractor or project manager type, must be an individual who actually does the work themselves.
Living in close proximity to the building is considered a plus, the building is about 3 blocks away from the Six Corners intersection (Milwaukee, Cicero and Irving Park Road).
Inquiries must have handyman experience to help with the following activities:
+ Small piping plumbing, sinks, toilets, bath / shower repair.
+ General wall work, drywall repair, caulking, and painting.
+ Moderate carpentry, doors, dents, floors, trim, molding, etc Doesn't need to be a master carpenter, but someone who can take measurements and cut wood to fit, helps a lot with this type of work.
+ Small appliance troubleshooting, fridges, ovens, dishwashers, washers & dryers, window unit installation and removal.
+ Light electrical, thermostat replacement, overhead light wiring, etc.
+ Winterization
+ Apartment turnover
+ Small static mechanical devices, such as locks, keys, doors, windows, etc.
+ Willing to clean when appropriate, keep the tool room well organized and do minor outdoor / yard work if there is a mess. There is a full time landscaper who handles most of the outdoor work.
+ Good communication and professional demeanor with the tenants.
+ Some English language required, some Spanish a plus.
Job would be 10-20 hours a week, potentially higher during peak periods (Summer). Trial period would start at $30 per hour with pay potentially increasing to $50 / hour, depending on skillset, trustworthiness, and initiative.
We are a small business, run by two brothers, we are offering honest pay for honest work.
