Job Description

Operate Blend system per schedule to produce small quantity high value paint orders for the coat line. Must be capable of understanding color scales, system software, paint property testing. Individual must be self-motivated in producing quality product at a highly productive rate. The ability to learn, grow and take accountability over the process is key.

  • Mix paint and complete drawdowns to match to standard
  • Adjust color as needed to meet specifications
  • Maintain color batch panels and standards for future
  • Generate tags for in process paint
  • Test all Properties/Physicals as needed
  • Computer literacy, including but not limited to, excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Utilization of Precoat AS400
  • Effective communicator with operations, quality, managers and vendors
  • Movement of drums via drum dolly and forklift are required
  • Cleanup and maintenance of system to a high standard of 6S.
  • Exposure to paint and chemicals will be required.
  • Utilize color computer to generate formulas for mixing paint.
  • Run system to fill appropriate quantities.
  • Varying shifts and weekend may be required
  • Meet delivery requirements
  • Must fully cross train and able to perform the essential functions of the Quality Lab tech position.

Critical Demands:

  • Ability to handle 55-gallon drums with hand-operated drum trucks
  • Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
  • Reach or extend forward for long periods of time to perform job duties.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as schedules, SOPs, work rules, etc.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Walk or stand for extended periods of time
  • Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ascend and descend stairs to reach work areas
  • Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
  • Communicate with other employees verbally or in writing
  • Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
  • Repetitive use of hands to press buttons and operate line controls
  • Occasional twisting of the neck and trunk
  • Unrestricted limitations on physical movement in order to safely operate complex, high speed equipment
  • Experience and ability to make quick decisions when supervision is not readily available

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Fork trucks, propane and electric
  • Calibrated tape measure
  • Hand operated drum trucks

Work Environment:

  • Periodic temperature extremes, including temperatures over 90 degrees
  • Some work areas located on 2nd or 3rd floor
  • Concrete floors
  • Exposure to high levels of noise
  • Exposure to dust
  • Periodic exposure to fumes from chemicals used in coating processes
  • Use of respirator required while performing some job functions
  • Jib crane
  • Various small hand tools
  • Shears and knives
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Computer terminal

Qualifications

  • High school level reading and writing, visual acuity to read labels, meters, gauges, documents and instructions
  • Six months work experience in an industrial or warehouse environment with fork lifts
  • Ability to safely operate small manual and electric hand tools
  • Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays
  • 6 to 12 months previous experience on a coating line is preferred
