Seeking an experienced salesperson to grow our existing business. Freight/trucking/brokerage sales experience highly desired. This will be the first sales specific person we will hire - so no pressure! Our company and people are located in Sacramento, CA but this position I don't envision to report to the office daily so location is negotiable. Our primary lanes are along the I-80 corridor from Sacramento to Ohio. A salesperson in California, Illinois, Indiana or Ohio makes the most sense for our business just in terms of ability to get face to face with potential clients. This could be similar to a more standard freight brokering opportunity with the slight difference of selling for an ASSET-BASED company with a highly specialized area of service.

Who we are:

We are an asset-based (20 trucks) with freight brokerage refrigerated trucking company looking to expand our business with a very specific types of customers but also willing to grow with new lines of profitable business that the new salesperson may bring to the table. I would like to double our sales in the next 12-18 months. Right now we have about 50% of our revenue coming from direct customers. We would like to see that grow to a higher percentage with spillover going into the brokerage. Right now the brokerage is only running at about $1.2 million per year in revenue. That is where the real opportunity is to grow.

What services would we would be looking to sell:

1. Refrigerated LTL outbound from Northern California to Midwest (possible to expand to other areas as opportunities present).

2. Refrigerated LTL backhaul to Northern California from the Midwest.

3. General truckload freight opportunities for brokering at margin or our trucking assets preferrably in our primary lanes along the I-80 corridor.

4. Local work around Sacramento - we have full warehouse abilities so unloading and delivering freight for customers outside the area or doing local area pickups and deliveries for customers.

Tasks the new hire may be responsible for:

1. Sourcing customer leads - I don't see this as being a ton of cold-calling but there could be some. Management will give you the clients to target and you may be responsible for digging out the contacts and pitching.

2. Traveling to shows, meeting with clients, presenting proposals for services to clients.

3. Full brokering tasks, getting a load, entering it into TMS, finding carrier dispatching it. This could be a team effort - but a full on brokerage task could be involved.

4. Social media, basic sales/marketing tasks together with management working on content.

Compensation will be a hybrid of base pay + commission. I am open to discussion on this but envisioning perhaps 500-1,000/wk base + either a percent of new business revenue or margin. Margin is difficult in trucking so it seems revenue makes more sense. OPEN FOR DISCUSSION!
