Job Posting End Date12-14-2024Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end dateJob SummaryUnder close supervision and oversight, the Environmental Technician Associate is responsible for the performance of environmental inspections, sampling, data management, and reporting requirements to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. Responsibilities include performance of inspections, collection of data, and the development of reports to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements at multiple AEP assets within the assigned region within regulatory time frames. The Environmental Technician is also responsible for informing appropriate AEP staff of issues identified during inspections that must be addressed through internal business processes.Job DescriptionThe Environmental Technician Associate should have at least an awareness of the inspection requirements related to some the following environmental programs:
Coal Combustion Residual Surface Impoundments and Landfills
Aboveground and underground storage tanks
Transportation of hazardous materials
Solid and hazardous waste management
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control
Wetland delineation
Rare threatened and endangered species and habitats
Oil and chemical spill response and management
Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting
Asbestos and PCB management
Pollution prevention
Environmental site assessments
Emergency planning, and community right-to-know.
Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills and initiative.Essential Job Functions & Tasks1) Provide environmental support under close supervision within the assigned region using AEP approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames. Communicate deviations appropriately.2) Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using AEP approved methods.3) Prepare and submit reports as assigned.4) Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.5) Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.6) Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.7) Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.8) Since a considerable amount of time will be spent driving across territories, safe driving techniques and practices are essential.Basic Qualifications listed below are for the Associate level. Additional qualifications are needed for the higher-level Technician role.Education:
Associate or bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline or previous military experience
Experience:
This position is considered entry level no experience is required, but preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license

Must have at least an awareness level knowledge of the inspection requirements for programs listed in the job summary above.
Travel time is considered 90% within the assigned region and may include overnight stays on occasion.
