Our Enterprise Application Technologies (EATech) Team is responsible for the technical side of many applications at the Laboratory. EATech provides database administration on SQL Server and Oracle for custom and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) applications within and outside of ISD. A large part of EATech’s work is within the SAP ecosystem at the Laboratory. The team performs application administration for all on-premises and Secure HANA Cloud-hosted SAP systems, and develops and supports custom SAP applications, reports, workflows, and interfaces. Position Description The Senior Database Administrator has a significant focus on the administration of Oracle and SQL Server databases, with a specialized emphasis on implementing and managing Oracle Database Appliance in compliance with the the Department of Defense's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) standards. The DBA will ensure best practices are adhered to, manage regular patching activities, troubleshoot database issues, and collaborate with application development teams to introduce new features and enhancements. Responsibilities also encompass the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database systems across various platforms, on-prem and cloud, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and optimal performance, all while maintaining adherence to CMMC requirements. Primary Duties Database Installation and Configuration
Participates in customer planning to deploy new installations of Oracle, primarily deployed on Oracle Database Appliance
Ensures Database compatibility matrix is aligned with customer's application requirements
Install database products that are hosted in a High Available hardware configuration
Setup and configure solutions that support database mirroring and replication solutions
Tune database systems to optimize available hardware resources
Communicate capacity plans and recommendations to ISD infrastructure Team for resource deployments
Database Patching
Develop Test plans to support vendor patches
Work with customers to schedule Security Patch (SPU), Critical Patch Updates (CPU) and Patch Set Updates (PSU)
Review Security scan reports to ensure patches are current
Work with customers to ensure patches are certified to run their applications
Maintain up-to-date documentation of patching procedures, ensuring alignment with CMMC documentation requirements
Database Migrations
Develop procedures to migrate databases from host to host supporting customer application upgrades
Manages and coordinates procedures to minimize downtimes.
Document processes for repeatability
Perform capacity analysis and work with infrastructure team to procure hardware or cloud resources
Migrate schema, tables, views and security needed to support partial migrations
Migrate Database instances in both a heterogeneous and homogeneous environment
Database Backup and Recovery
Develop and document procedures design to protect database deployments from loss of data
Schedule and configure daily database and transactional log backups
Develop and document procedures to recover databases to specific point in time based on customer recovery requirements.
Develop and document procedure to recover individual database blocks in the event of block corruption
Database Security
Ensure that CMMC controls are leveraged from enterprise services or implemented at the database level
Review application database security requirements and work with application owners to setup least privilege security roles
Work with application owners to update account passwords based on Lab Account security policies
Implement standards to encrypt database files at rest
Implement standards to encrypt PII attributes in databases
Conduct regular audits of database access and permissions, implementing real-time alerting for unauthorized access attempts in accordance with CMMC monitoring requirements.
Database Monitoring and Alerting
Develop systematic procedures to identify database performance and locking issues
Develop and maintain metrics that can be use by customers and DBAs to report historical database performance and consumption analysis trends
Setup real-time alerting to proactively identity application performance concerns
Work with customers to document performance SLA’s and baseline normal operating throughput measurements
Scope and Required Qualifications
Under the general supervision of the DBA Team Lead, this role demands frequent collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the integrity, security, and performance of database environments, with a strong emphasis on compliance with CMMC standards.
Qualifications:
Required Minimum
Bachelor of Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent relevant work experience
Advanced skills in Oracle Database Administration and Design
Experience in managing and upgrading Oracle Database Appliance
Substantial experience in implementing secure configurations
Knowledge of CMMC requirements and controls
Ability to work independently toward delivery of goals as well as collaborate in team efforts
Ability to work analytically in a problem-solving environment
Skill in Database software installation, upgrades and patching
Skill in interviewing users and identifying their needs
Skill in organizing and managing projects
Skill in building consensus among stakeholders and colleagues
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to mentor/guide more junior team members
Experience:
6 years’ experience in the information technology field
6 years’ experience with Oracle database configuration and implementations

Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
