The Role: The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in the financial operations and controls of our inventory management and controls, focusing on cost accounting, controls, contract management, and reporting. This position requires a deep understanding of cost accounting principles, extensive experience with inventory management, and the ability to analyze complex data to provide strategic insights. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance cost efficiency and accuracy. Based at our New Orleans Headquarters, this role reports to the CFO. Key Responsibilities: Cost Accounting:
Perform detailed cost analysis and provide comprehensive reports on production costs, inventory, and cost of goods sold.
Develop, maintain, and improve standard cost models and ensure accurate costing of products.
Conduct regular variance analysis, comparing actual costs to standard costs, and provide insights on discrepancies.
Support the monthly close through management and control of inventory and COGS entries.
Inventory Control:
Oversee and manage inventory accounting processes, including reconciliation of physical inventories with system records.
Implement and monitor inventory control procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of inventory data.
Consolidate and assess periodic cycle counts and annual physical inventories to maintain inventory accuracy.
Manage adherence to major contract terms for manufacturing, shipping, warehousing, and import export controls.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to cost accounting and inventory.
Support month-end and year-end closing processes by ensuring accurate recording of inventory and cost transactions.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts, providing detailed analysis of cost and inventory data.
Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations for cost control.
Process Improvement:
Identify areas for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements.
Collaborate with operations, supply chain, and production teams to implement best practices in cost management and inventory control.
Develop and enhance cost accounting systems, procedures, and controls.
Compliance and Auditing:
Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations related to cost and inventory accounting.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA) is preferred, but not required
Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the consumer products industry.
Proven experience in inventory control and management.
Strong experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Net Suite) and advanced Excel skills.
Skills and Competencies:
Deep understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management practices.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and lead projects.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
