High School Behavior Interventionist

The Behavior Interventionist is a school-based teammate who helps create calm, predictable classrooms so students can learn, and families and teachers feel supported. The role provides targeted small-group and 1:1 coaching, de-escalation, and restorative re-entry in close partnership with the Dean of Culture, teachers, counselors, and student support teams. Success looks like fewer repeat incidents, more instructional time for supported students, timely and accurate documentation, and clear follow-through on plans. The Behavior Interventionist implements established routines and intervention plans, manages an in-school support space when assigned, and promptly escalates safety issues to school leaders.The responsibilities and essential functions of the role include:Intervention & Student SupportProvide targeted Tier 2–3 supports (check-in/check-out, small-group/1:1 coaching, behavior skill-building).Implement, monitor, and document Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs); contribute observations for FBAs.Facilitate restorative conversations/circles; coordinate re-entry plans after removals/suspensions.Manage an in-school support room when assigned; keep students engaged in academic work.Proactive Culture BuildingModel high-expectation, warm-strict routines in hallways, transitions, arrival/dismissal, and lunch.Teach and reinforce schoolwide expectations; support classroom routines at teacher request.Promote attendance and on-time transitions through positive incentives and family partnership.Crisis Response & SafetyApply trained de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches to defuse situations before they escalate.Implement crisis-prevention protocols, including safe physical intervention techniques when required and only if properly trained (e.g., CPI or equivalent).Collaborate with school leaders, counselors, and security staff (if applicable) to assess and manage safety risks.Support re-entry planning for students following crisis incidents to promote long-term success.Data, Documentation & ComplianceTrack interventions, incidents, and progress in DeansList (and related systems); analyze trends with the Dean of Culture.Support IDEA/504 alignment by implementing accommodations and logging services as directed.Communicate regularly with families; participate in MTSS meetings and share student updates.Collaboration & Professional LearningPartner with teachers, counselors, SPED teams, and leaders to align supports with academic goals.Attend and apply training in restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and crisis prevention.
