SUBSTITUTIONS: Training in the painting trade will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on a month for month basis. Job ConceptsFunction of Work:To serve as assistant to a Painter Foreman and provide assistance, guidance and support to a group of Painters while performing standard tasks of the trade.Level of Work:Advanced.Supervision Received:General from a Painter Foreman.Supervision Exercised:Lead worker over Painters and Apprentices.Location of Work:May be used by all state agencies.Job Distinctions:Differs from Painter Foreman by the absence of full supervisory responsibilities.Differs from Painter by the presence of advanced journeyman duties and lead worker responsibilities.Examples of WorkThe Painter Master will work at the Journeyman level, provide assistance to a Maintenance Foreman and provide guidance and support for painters and helpers in the painting and maintenance of facilities, buildings and equipment at Museum buildings in !he French Quarter, New Orleans. The Painter Master is to perform standard tasks of the trade in addition to duties as assigned for work locations.Painter Duties40%Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted in all Museum buildings to include the Lower Pontalba residential apartments by scrapping, sanding, brushing and dusting. Performs other related incidental duties to walls and floors for proper preparation to all surfaces to be painted.Determines method of application and applies paint with brush, rollers and spray gun to exterior and interior of buildings, exhibit casework and props and other related surfaces in all of the museum buildings.Mixes, thins and matches paint to professional Museum exhibit specifications.20% Provide guidance and serve as job leader for journeyman painters; direct and train assigned helpers and apprentices; make preliminary painting project estimates; set work priorities to meet key performance goals as scheduled by the office of State Museum30% Hangs, tapes, floats and repairs sheetrock. Mixes and matches plaster and cement. Installs and repairs lathe. Plasters newly constructed walls and ceilings on metal and wood lathe, tile and brick; applies the necessary number of coats and finishes plaster to match existing finish.Patches old plaster, removes loose plaster, cuts out cracks and applies new plaster.Performs incidental related cement repair jobs.5%Performs preventative maintenance to the Lower Ponlalba residential apartments.5%Performs other related work as assigned.Louisiana State Government represents a wide variety of career options and offers an outstanding opportunity tomake a differencethrough public service.
