As a Military Firefighter Supervisor, you will assist the Assistant Military Fire Chief’s and Fire Chief in emergency responses at the Bangor International Airport and at Air National Guard facilities. You will be given the opportunity to take command during emergency situations, leading teams of responders to eliminate hazardous situations and save personnel from fires and other dangerous conditions. Oversees and monitors the work of assigned firefighting personnel to ensure response readiness and proper maintenance and operation of firefighting/rescue vehicles.
Responds to actual and potential structure/crash fires and functions as an incident command or interior command in the absence of the AMFC to ensure proper response to emergencies.
Assesses the nature and extent of fire, condition of structures, danger to adjacent structures, and water supply status to determine crew or response requirements.
Trains, instructs, and drills firefighters in firefighting/crash rescue techniques, rescue methods, first aid, fire prevention, and use of fire equipment to attain and maintain personnel readiness and proficiency.
Oversees inspections and inspects firefighting/rescue equipment for proper maintenance and operation to ensure safety and/or proper functioning in support of established readiness goals.
Conducts inspections of structures to identify fire hazards, verify compliance with fire prevention requirements, testing and checking alarms and fire suppression equipment and ensuring identified deficiencies are corrected.
Skills or knowledge required:
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance and operation of firefighting and rescue vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Knowledge of structural agents, protective clothing, aircraft firefighting and rescue techniques, strategies, and procedures.
Knowledge of construction features of civilian and military aircraft, buildings, and systems.
Knowledge of supervisory practices, procedures, and techniques.
Knowledge of administrative record keeping requirements and procedures.
Knowledge of fire protection engineering principles and professionally recognized fire codes.
Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances; and uses of chemicals, their interactions, and danger signs.
Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.
Ability to move quickly to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
Ability to estimate sizes, distances, quantities, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
Ability to direct and supervise firefighting operations at the scene of a fire or crash.
Ability to conduct classroom and practical firefighting/rescue training.
Ability to operate specialized firefighting and rescue vehicles and related equipment.
Ability to operate audio visual and related training equipment.
Ability to use applicable computer programs.
All Current or future military firefighting personnel covered by the contract be required to complete one six-year enlistment with the military either before or during their first years of employment.
Minimum qualifications:Five (5) years firefighting experience involving aircraft and structural fire and rescue techniques to include supervising and directing firefighting functions.Licensing/Registration/Certification Requirements:
Valid Maine driver’s license.
