Cumberland Ave. Garage has an immediate opening for a full-time service manager. Hours are Monday-Thursday 7:30-5:00, Friday 7:30-12. We are a small, friendly, neighborhood auto repair shop. We've built our reputation on high quality, honest work and excellent service in an atmosphere of mutual respect for both employees and customers - some of whom have been with us for over thirty years.
Job description:
You will fulfill administrative and customer service roles along with 1-2 part-time service writers in a small, well-lit office close to downtown Portland. You will also sometimes walk the shop floor, talking with technicians and tracking inventory. You will be interacting with customers and colleaguesboth in-person and by phone. You will also write work orders, build estimates, and order parts. You don't necessarily need automotive expertise, but being a quick learner is important. There are opportunities to learn according to your interest level. Cumberland Ave Garage welcomes all races, creeds, and orientations.Pay is commensurate with skills and experience.
Daily tasks include:
-Managing shop appointment calendar and work flow
-Scheduling appointments and checking customers in and out (no driving needed)
-Generating repair orders, estimates, invoices and transcribing technicians' notes onto work orders in our shop management software program
-Communicating with customers and technicians to identify problems and symptoms, work needed, and work completed
-Returning phone messages
-Ordering parts (communicating with multiple suppliers)
-Maintaininga small inventory and restocking parts
-Managing the office staffing calendar
-Cleaning/tidying office and kitchenette
Essential skills and qualities:
-Typing very proficiently and accurately
-Prioritizing workflow in a fast-paced setting
-Communicating clearly with technicians to understand repair needs
-Communicating clearly with customers regarding costs and timelines for repairs (including translating technical language into layperson's terms)
-Tracking many details simultaneously, along multiple timelines
-Maintaining focus through frequent interruptions (ability to multitask)
-Completing tasks in order, according to a standardized protocol
-Reliably arriving on time; following a consistent schedule
-Must have general technical background and/or mechanical aptitude; automotive or similar technology experience is preferred
-Important personal qualities include diligence, accepting and integrating feedback, working collaboratively with other employees, and maintaining a pleasant demeanor under stress
