Sissle & Daughters is a soon-to-open all-day cafe, wine bar, and grocer in Portland’s Woodford’s Corner neighborhood, from the folks at The Cheese Shop of Portland. Our focus is on quality from the ingredients we source, foods we cook, and service we provide. We aim to create a positive work environment full of opportunities to learn and create meaningful connections with our colleagues and customers. Hiring for immediate training. Estimated opening late October.

We are looking for a team of kitchen professionals who care about the craft of cooking, are passionate about great ingredients & making straightforward, delicious food. Ideal candidates will show an interest in charcuterie & whole animal butchery, show respect for the products we work with and the people who make or grow them, and most of all for the people working beside you. These roles are daytime hours of production cooking, no live fire tickets.

Primary Responsibilities:

Works with Chef to produce foods both served in the cafe/wine bar and sold in our grocery department for take-and-heat/take-and-eat.

Monitor and maintain proper inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, communicating any shortages to the Lead Cook or Chef.

Adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen workspace.

Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, reporting any malfunctions for timely repairs.

Assist in the cleaning and closing duties at the end of each shift, ensuring the kitchen is left in a ready-to-use state for the next team.

Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, working effectively alongside the entire team, across departments.

Qualifications:

Ability to move and work cleanly and efficiently in the kitchen.

Own your own sharp knives & keep them clean and professional.

Basic fundamental cooking knowledge.

Some combination of experience in production cooking, fine dining, butchery, and/or baking is a plus.

Strong prep and knife skills.

Interest in learning, ability to take and follow direction.

Ability to work independently while following a prep list.

Ability to stand and work for 8+ hours.

Able to lift 50+ pounds.

Available to work some weekends and holidays.

Along with the rest of the kitchen team, execute deep cleaning schedule as assigned.
