Sissle & Daughters is a soon-to-open all-day cafe, wine bar, and grocer in Portland’s Woodford’s Corner neighborhood, from the folks at The Cheese Shop of Portland. Our focus is on quality from the ingredients we source, foods we cook, and service we provide. We are looking for a Lead Barista to serve as the anchor of our espresso program. We are looking for candidates with a friendly and upbeat attitude, an eye for the fine details, a true passion for coffee and food, and the ability to lead & train.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Oversee espresso bar, while upholding incredible customer service–service that’s friendly, down-to-earth, accommodating and aims to cultivate regulars.
● Lead by example with staff in terms of integrity, positivity, and work ethic.
● Ensure the top quality and presentation of all beverages.
● Maintain a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization behind the bar
● Schedule maintenance of equipment as needed
● Handle customer complaints quickly and courteously.
● Proactively yet tactfully encourage upsells.
● Perform opening and closing duties as well as side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned.
● Assist management in hiring new baristas.
Train new baristas on all systems and best practices.
● Monitor waste and other inefficiencies–and think outside of the box to find solutions.
Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, working effectively alongside the entire team, across departments.
Qualifications
● 2+ years of barista experience.
● A passion for giving great customer service.
● Self-motivated and driven to exceed expectations.
● Extensive and ever-expanding knowledge of coffee.
● Extremely organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to multi-task.
● Great communication skills.
● Ability to work some weekends and holidays.
● A team player with a willingness to jump in and help with all tasks.
● A quick-thinking and decisive problem solver.
