TheGarage Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the quality and timely maintenance and repair of vehicles, from sub-compact sedans to large, complex, and highly specialized trucks, and construction equipment.The Garage Supervisor ensures the delivery of top-quality customer service in compliance with Federal/state laws and WSSC Water policies and regulations.Essential Functions

Supervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination

Supervises the maintenance and repair of automotive, truck and construction equipment

Prepares and analyzes reports, diagnoses operating problems, and plans employee work assignments

Maintains and applies working knowledge of WSSC Water standards for business

Controls and meets or exceeds expectations for effective internal business needs

Coordinates the scheduling and distribution of the preventive maintenance servicing, repair, and maintenance of all fleet assets assigned to the garage

Coordinates the ordering of materials, parts, tools, and shop equipment

Maintains contact with internal customers regarding fleet asset problems

Establishes emissions and vehicle mechanical inspection schedules for Commission vehicles in compliance with state of Maryland requirements

Monitors stock levels of parts and supplies ensuring maintenance of adequate, but not excessive, inventories

Reviews oil analysis results to ensure quality timely repairs based on analysis

Monitors computer usage to ensure users are aware of correct operational procedures and assists as needed

Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business

Other Functions

Assists in the investigation of motor vehicle/equipment accidents and participates in accident review boards when requested

Manages the preparation of new vehicles/equipment to place them into service

Manages the preparation of older vehicles/equipment to get them ready for auction

Performs related duties, as required

Work Environment And Physical Demands

Work performed primarily in professional fleet garage

Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Extensive skill in and knowledge of the principles and practices of repair/maintenance of automotive, heavy trucks and construction equipment of fleet maintenance repair facilities

Extensive knowledge of transportation administrative procedures

Good verbal and written communication skills

Good knowledge of after-market parts and supplies and inventory systems

Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of direct report supervisors and their employees

Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general user community

Ability to learn different hardware systems and software programs related to vehicular and equipment services

Ability to assist staff in resolving computer/application problems

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

Automotive trade school/tech school graduate and 5+ years’ large fleet experience with automotive, heavy trucks, and equipment

OR

High School diploma (or equivalent) and 7+ years’ large fleet experience with automotive, heavy trucks, and equipment

Additional Requirements

Valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain a WSSC Water permit within 90 days of transfer

Possess and maintain the following:

Refrigerant Recycling and Recovery certification by ASE or MACS

Maryland Underground Storage Tank Class C Operator under COMAR 26.10.16

Class (B) Commercial Driver’s License

Must successfully pass Department of Transportation ( DOT ) physical

Completion of the WSSC Water Financial Disclosure statement within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter

Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work

Preferences

Master ASE Certification in Automobile or Light/Medium/Heavy Truck (vehicle specific certifications, i.e., Ford or General Motors are acceptable)

Bachelor’s degree

Supervisory experience in a large fleet environment
