Summary NIST works with industry and science to advance innovation and improve quality of life. We're looking for a Physical Science Technician to join our team! Responsibilities Working as a Physical Science Technician in the Fabrication Technology Office, you will provide technical support in the design, fabrication and testing of glass based components and assemblies for scientific measurement applications. Provide technical support in the design and fabrication of components of scientific equipment that must operate under moderate or high vacuum. Provide technical support in the design, fabrication, alignment, or use of optical and radiation sources, components, or instruments, including lasers. Support the design, fabrication and assembly of customized precision glass and quartz based research apparatus and measurement devices in consultation with scientists and engineers to advance the measurement capabilities of chemical and material properties. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify, applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 (or ZT-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience in the fabrication of Glass and optical parts and assemblies, vacuum testing of glass cells and complex glass assemblies, glass instrument development and design, glass melting and SRM preparations, knowledge of glass melting processes and materials. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application. The qualification requirements in this vacancy announcement are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook.
